My self and kids arrived in pissouri the night before and first time visiting pissouri. It was all so first time visiting Yialos tavern. Last time we visited Cyprus was 10 years ago when kids were very young and don't remember any of it. As a Cypriot I wanted to educate them in some authentic cuisine. They had tried their papoous and yayas food on many a time but not sheftalia. After checking all the other restaurants which are owned by expats for expats and British tourist we came across Yialos.
The restaurant is situated on the top floor with panoramic views of the sea. The owner greeted us showed us to a table of our choicing and took our order whilst the Indian waiter served us both were social able.
We ordered a large village salad which came with bread and pitta, olves and 3 dips (taramasalada, tahini, and a mayonnaise dip). These were complimentary except for the salad.
For main we had mix kebab with pork souvlaki and sheftalia served with chips.
My kids loved it so much they told me it was better than the pork kebabs I make.
They were very good with enough fat to keep the moist and cooked on charcoal to give them a nice crisp charcoal taste and texture. The same applied with the sheftalia.
The salad could of done with some more fetta and vinger but we were happy.
The food took me back to when I lived and worked in Cyprus and the many meals I enjoyed their and with sea views and a bottle os St pentalmium wine who can argue.
The prices were standard 12 euro for the mix kebabs and 15 euro for wine. The whole boll came to 106 euro for 5 of us worked to 21euro approx for a two course meal.
I all so got a free cyprus coffee and some free cyprus sweet which a fruit in syrup.
If you won't authentic food this is the place to eat that is more affordable than...
Read moreThis is about the restaurant/tavern. I don’t recommend for eur 61,- 1/4 carat house wine , sea bream and 5 king prawns and 2 black coffee.
We asked if salad bar was included with our course of 17,- pp. The waiter asked inside and said “yes” but They charged us 8,- totaal for some basic lettuce and sauces. We said it again: you told was included no it is not included…. Well I asked is said again but they did not correct it…..
Wine of house we asked : is it nice or tourist wine? 8,- half caraf. Very ordinary wine. Not much taste, pity.
Then they “forgot” to give back the correct amount of change (a lot) …. Then a black coffee is 4,- per person for average coffee not even good.
Also the shrimps were not put any salt herb or spices in it, very bland. It seemed to be boiled/fried in fat in stead of baked well. The sea bream was good ( but also fat) and we good some fruit of the house which was nice.
Add: we just read the salad bar trick is done more often…. Tourist Trap! And owner does not give anything about bad reviews (read below!) …. So unprofessional to write this.
Don’t fool people and be open to critics. The customer makes the business and not taking customers seriously means going down.. even when having local customers…..
Have the customer always leave with a feeling of respect and enjoyment. We felt “trapped”...
Read moreWe came to celebrate a birthday and ordered various dishes à la carte, as well as both meat and fish mezes. The vegetarian & meat koupepia and the stifado were very tasty, and the service was good. The sea view from the restaurant was also beautiful as it is a couple minutes walk from the beach.
Before ordering, we asked both the proprietors if the food was cooked on the charcoal, seeing as they had gas grills through the kitchen doors. When the food arrived, it was clearly not cooked on the charcoal. It was dry and burnt (as shown in the second photo), clearly lacking charcoal flavour. When called out, the staff members lied and said it was in fact cooked on charcoal. Later on, they backtracked and said it was a small misunderstanding. The lies from the staff reduced our faith in the food providence,...
