Olomouc Hussite Church — Attraction in okres Olomouc

This lovely Hussite church, built in just one year during the First Republic in 1915-1916, is a beautiful and peaceful church. It is open to the public, and though the attendant is unlikely to speak English they have information available in English. I strongly recommend taking a moment to visit the kolumbárium, the church's mausoleum, accessible from the outside (ground level, right hand side of the church, towards the rear). I stumbled upon the Hussite Church in Olomouc, a beautiful building both inside and out. The architecture is nice, and the atmosphere is peaceful. During my visit, I learned more about the Hussites, a 15th-century reform movement inspired by Jan Hus, who sought to challenge corruption in the Catholic Church and promote religious reform.

Modernistyczny kościół złożony jest z trójnawowego korpusu i zakończony apsydą, do której przylegają pomieszczenia mieszkalne i biurowe. W północno wschodnim narożniku kościoła wznosi się wysoka wieża. Od frontu kościół poprzedza sześciokolumnowy portyk, który w pierwszym przęśle ma formę otwartego przedsionka. Elewacje boczne kościoła są gładkie otynkowane. Nawy boczne oświetlone są wąskimi prostokątnymi oknami. Korpus nawowy nakrywa dach beczkowy, zaś nad portykiem dach płaski. Wewnątrz nawa główna nakryta jest kolebkowym sklepieniem kasetonowym wspartym na filarach.
