First and foremost - book in advance. I’ve read some negative feedback from people expecting to just join a tour on arrival and then feel it is acceptable to leave less than positive feedback because the biggest champagne house in the world didn’t dance to their tune. This is very unfair, and in my view - quite selfish. This tour is world famous, extremely popular and if you want to enjoy the house of Moët and Chandon in all its splendour - book it in advance, plan your visit and consider the fact you may be quite drunk at the end of it, depending on which package your book.
We had the most enjoyable tour of the house of Moët & Chandon. First thing we learned is the silencing of the ‘t’ is a common mistake, normally a result of people trying to pronounce in sympathetic fashion to the French not pronouncing the last letter in their vocabulary - it is pronounced mo-ett and not mo-ay, with particular focus on the ‘ett’. Like wet - without the w.
The cellars are absolutely mind blowing, it’s hard to imagine there are nearly 15 MILES of cellars. And every bottle down there - is full.
The shop is something else. Bring a credit card! Also - try to walk there or get a taxi. The amount of ‘sampling’ on the tour is fantastic. My wife and I are planning on renewing our wedding vows on our 25th anniversary in 2023 and I’ve managed to buy Jeroboams from the shop. Superb day and a fantastic experience whilst on holiday in France.
Enjoy and Salute Merci Moët &...
Read moreI booked a tour (well in advance) for my husbands birthday. It’s on the main st of Epernay and is a lovely building. You need to book as it’s a popular tour and they only run so many in English Unfortunately I can not remember our Italian tour guides name but she was excellent, very informative but in a light hearted way. Being in the cellars was a really great experience, I don’t really like tours but this was wasn’t boring as many tend to be. You get to taste 2 glasses at the end. The sommelier was the only disappointment, she seemed to be rushing what she was saying & as of off a script… I understand that English isn’t her 1st language but she did seem to be just going through the motions & I did notice she went home straight after she had spoken to us, but honestly I was just ready for a drink by that time as this is over an hr later . The grounds outside where you get to drink the champagne are lovely and the whole tour gave me a new perspective on this...
Read moreThe Moet & Chandon cellars visit will be in my personal top-5 not only of the cellars tours but of the tours in general. I believe the principal reason of that was our amazing guide, Mohammed. He combines rich knowledge, expertise, ability to deliver the Maison’s history in an incredibly fascinating way, engagement, passion about what he is doing and.. great sense of humour:) These two hours spent in the endless caves were absolutely worth it. Mohammed was able to answer all the questions going even beyond the answers and I personally have discovered Moet&Chandon from completely another angle. Being one of the oldest Maisons de champagne, this place is a must to visit and to make the tasting. Just keep in mind that the temperature inside the cellars does not exceed 12 degrees (+higher humidity in winter) so consider of having something warm to put on. Thank you, Moet&Chandon, and see you in...
