Champagne Alfred Gratien — Attraction in Épernay

Everything seemed to be perfect. We had an opportunity to taste delicious champagne, had a chance to read and learn from the host interesting features about each type of champagne. Unfortunately all of that was ruined at the end, when we were leaving the place. As we couldn’t go on tour to the cellars because we came with our dog, we just wanted to see sneak peeks from the outside, just have an extra quick look how the place looked like. Unfortunately we couldn’t, as host came quickly before we could even make a step closer and said we were not allowed to look at that. It was a great pity, as we enjoyed earlier the atmosphere, and at the end we were treated as some kind of intruders who are extremely unwelcome there. I was unpleasantly surprised by that kind of reaction and the good impression of this place completely...

After reading the fantastic reviews we decided to have the tour at Albert Gratien. We walked in and were greeted warmly by Amanda. We hadn’t booked but that was no problem as she was expecting a small group to arrive shortly which we could join. As it turned out, this group did not show up and we ended up getting a private tour from Amanda. And what a fantastic tour it was! She was so knowledgeable and very passionate about their champagne and her English was impeccable! We realised how little we knew about champagne and we learned so much! The tasting afterwards was amazing and it was hard to decide which one we were going to buy as they were all sublim!. We went home with a magnum bottle and a new appreciation for this fantastic product. Merci Amanda, c’était...

This place is the rudest place we have been to in Champagne and I wouldn’t recommend going there. Upon entering and asking about the tours, the lady told us that the tour is only in French. Some of us speak French so we said we could translate it for our 2 friends. The lady then went on saying that there won’t be time to translate. Upon saying it’s fine, she grinned and said “There’s no space!”. She even made fun of us afterwards. Do not go! Edit in regard to owners comment: This happened on Sunday June 2nd, between 3-4pm, we were denied by a lady aged ~35-45. We are 100% this is the place because we clearly wrote it down after the incident. I hope you will improve your service...
