I am so fortunate I stumbled across Ted Aix Tours via an internet search. It was my first time in Aix en Provence getting my son set up for his semester at the university so I was looking for things to do on my own. First, I did the Market Tour with Edouard. He showed me around the markets and I was able to sample things from some of the vendors. Because he is a local, he knows many of the vendors well. It was a very good introduction to life in Aix. Next I did the Historic Walking Tour. We walked in the steps of Cezanne from his school to the museum to the cathedral. Edouard pointed out many interesting facts and points of interest along the way. This was a very good way to familiarize myself with the old city and I learned a lot. He even gave me museum tickets! Lastly I joined another woman and Edouard for his Wine Tasting tour. In a local wine shop, he gave us an overview of wine and how it’s made. He showed us how to properly taste the wine. Next we went to a local wine bar and enjoyed a selection of cheeses & meats with more wine. He gave me a recommendation for a wine bar when my friends came to visit. It was a pleasure to meet Edouard and I hope to see him again on my next visit. I would highly recommend him!
Ted was instrumental in my first visit to Aix. I believe it was fate that I found him. Half French & half American, he was the perfect combination to translate and show me around the city. I did 4 tours with him-the market tour, the historical tour, the wine tasting tour. For our last tour, my son & I went walked with Ted to Terrain des Peintures (painters place). I learned so much about the local culture and the city. Ted also gave me museum tickets and many recommendations on where to get the best baguette, croissant, chocolates plus a whole list of restaurant recommendations. The tours kept me occupied me while my son was busy with orientation at the university. I’m so thankful to have met Ted. If you’re even in Aix en Provence, I highly recommend you book...
Read moreDid the market tour and unfortunately it was rather disappointing. Edouard's reviews are great, so his other tours may be excellent, but this one doesn't seem to have been well thought out.
We walked through the various parts of the market and Edouard pointed out a few vendors he likes and some recommended restaurants and bakeries nearby. This was basically the extent of the tour.
I was hoping to get an introduction to Provençal cuisine and some insight into local agriculture and food production, but really none was provided. When asked questions about the different products and foods, their seasonality, use in local dishes, etc. Edouard didn't have anything to say. Ultimately, we actually learned more after the tour by walking around and talking directly with the vendors.
If you're just looking for someone to show you around the market and point out some stalls to try, then this would probably be a fine experience. If you want something a bit more in-depth, you might want to skip it.
Market tours are great so with some thought and preparation this could probably...
Read moreAn unforgettable day in Aix-en-Provence with Édouard from Ted Aix Tours! We booked a private tour and were completely blown away. Édouard was warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly well-connected — he seemed to know everyone in town! We loved the blend of Franglais throughout the day (I speak more French than my husband, which added to the fun), and every stop felt like a hidden gem.
Highlights included the most delicious madeleines from Christophe (no line!), unforgettable nougat, cashews from Monsieur Praliné, honey, local confitures, lavender soap, and the best calissons we’ve ever tasted. Lunch at Les Gallinas was outstanding — the lamb tripe was a surprising standout — and we left with a full doggy bag and full hearts.
Édouard added just the right amount of local history and charm to make the day feel both relaxed and enriching. We truly felt like we made a new friend. Highly recommend Édouard and Withlocals for a personalized, delicious, and memorable...
