Fascinating and cleverly curated museum — well worth a visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Tobacco Museum in Bergerac. It’s surprisingly interesting and very cleverly arranged. Although all the written information throughout the museum is in French, the visit begins with an excellent short film (around 15 minutes) that explains the history of tobacco — with English subtitles. This film provides a solid foundation, so you’re able to understand and appreciate everything you see afterwards, even without translations on the displays.

The museum also features some interactive screens and a surprising amount of art related to tobacco — from advertising to fine art, which adds a rich cultural layer to the experience.

The entrance fee is very reasonable at only €5 for adults, and children go free, which makes it a great family option. There’s also a small gift shop at the entrance with tobacco related books and other little things

One tip: be aware that the museum closes for lunch between 12:00 and 14:00, so plan your visit accordingly.

Highly recommended if you’re in Bergerac and looking for something a...

Mixed messages! Poor customer service on arrival, but it improved when staff, hopefully, realised how rude they had been when we interrupted their conversation to ask for tickets to get in. Large and authentic displays well conserved and displayed. No display words are in English and the English leaflet is very brief. Film was good with English sub-titles. Gave a good history of tobacco use in all societies across the globe, but completely omitted that last 50 years discoveries about the dangerously harmful aspects of smoking and implied it wasn’t all that bad. Now I wonder who paid for...

Interesting visit …. But I cannot believe I smoked so many cigarettes in the early 70s and so glad I gave up …quitté! The artefacts and information are very detailed with informative film but nothing that I could see or hear about health implications. Maybe I missed it as I am English and only speak and read a little french. Having said this the visit was very interesting informative and the historical pipes...

A interesting museum over 4 floors with many items to look at but it is ruined to the fact the exhibits are not translated to English and are all in French. Price is fair for museum. Worth a visit.
