Aux Cèpes enchantés — Restaurant in Bergerac

The food was amazing. The ancient building and the central location are equally enticing. But booking is a must! If you turn up without a booking, you may find youself in the back room!! I suppose we should have been glad to have them find space for us, but in hindsight, we should have booked for another day instead! The back room has no windows, but instead has a TV playing a video of tropical fish on a loop with dreadful "lift music" accompaniment. The room is more like the staff rest room! Aux cèpes enchantés, le nom fait rêver et laisse notre imaginaire vagabonder sur les sentiers forestiers à la recherche de ce graal qu’est le Cèpe.

Dehors, un énorme cep, sculpté dans le bois, avec son ami escargot, nous invite à entrer, présage d’une décoration atypique relative à ce champignon emblématique de la cuisine française.

La déception est grande. La première salle où nous sommes introduits est petite, amplifiant le bruit et les discussions des autres clients, ce qui est gênant. La décoration est quasiment inexistante et n’a aucun lien avec la spécialité proposée et le nom de l’enseigne.

Il est proposé en apéritif un vin de truffe, au nez on sent bien la truffe et au goût également. Je le recommande

Nous avons pris une assiette de foie gras avec son confit de figues et un confit de canard aux cèpes. Esthétiquement, les assiettes sont équilibrées et la présentation soignée. Les tranches de foie gras sont belles et épaisses. On sent bien l’alcool, l’assaisonnement est nickel. Petit bémol cependant, il aurait pu être sorti juste quelques minutes avant afin d’être moins dur au coupé (après c’est une question de goût).

Pour ce qui est du confit de canard, un peu gras à notre goût mais très bon. Gros bémol concernant l’accompagnement peu diversifié (salade, frites) et surtout industriel, les frites auraient pu être maison. La sauce aux cèpes accompagnant le confit était bonne mais la teneur en cèpes aurait pu être un poil plus soutenue. Les cèpes proposés étaient bien cuits et bons.

La carte des desserts ne proposent rien d’original et n’est pas attrayante.

Very hot outside with no breeze or fans. They delivered wrong starter for my daughter with no apology. Food ok but not special. Update - the waitress approached me this evening after leaving the above review when I was dining at a neighbouring restaurant which was uncomfortable as with my family.
