En 1385 Ramond de la Rivière recibe del rey Carlos VI un feudo ubicado en el valle de Chevreuse al sudoeste de Paris, por haber contribuido a recuperar Bergerac de mano de los ingleses. Logicamente, bautizó esta zona con el nombre de Bergerac. 300 años más tarde, sobre estas mismas tierras Hercule Savinien de Cyrano pasa sus años de infancia. Nacido en Paris en 1619, el comienza su carrera militar en la compañía de “mousquetaires gascons”, es, en ese momento que él toma el nombre de Bergerac. Más adelante, él retoma sus estudios y se adentra en el mundo de la literatura y la poesía con un particular toque visionario y libertario. Sus escritos oscilan siempre entre la curiosidad intelectual y científica. Y muere de forma accidental en 1655 con solo 36 años. Él, Hercule Savinien, es quien inspirará al personaje heroico de Edmond Rostand en 1897, cuando crea por primera vez “Cyrano de Bergerac” en el teatro de la Puerta de San Martin.
