Busy bistro that lives up to the hype.
Had a light lunch here, but almost didn't. A couple + child were turned away before us because ”they're full" but somehow when I asked a moment later a table for two was free after a bit of gallic shrugging. Probably better to come earpy or book a table, this place is very popular.
To start we shared snails cooked in camembert. The snails were delicious and meaty and paired well with the cheese. 8/10
For main I picked the scallops and foie gras. Scallops were good but not spectacular. Foie gras on the other hand was divine. The accompanying purées and sauces wrre lovely. 9/10.
Wife ordered the beef and hasselback potatoes. Hilariously she asked for it "well-done" and the waiter just said "no", left a good 5 second pause for it to sink in and said it would ruin the dish. She negotiated for "80%" and still squirmed at the ever so slightly pink center. It was a beautiful cut of beef though, great crust (to be expected, really) and paired with delicious sauces and the potatoes were also excellent and crunchy. 8/10
Service was a bit slow, as expected they were quite busy and he did give us the shrug off, I mean yeah you can have a table but you might be waiting... we didn't mind, the food was worth it. Waiter also speaks pretty good english too, which...
Read moreOne of only a handful of restaurants open on Sunday and we came away thinking we’d have eaten there if everywhere was open! Start with the service - friendly, helpful and excellent from the minute we arrived. Food is shown, in English or French, on a tablet which is novel and very useful! Food was sublime and incredibly reasonable too - starters were delicious (asparagus with foie gras sauce and egg with trout) and the mains were exceptional too. Dish of the night for me was my duck in stout sauce - it’s a special recipe apparently and the visit was worth this alone. Brilliant restaurant and very...
Read moreExcellent restaurant that welcomes English customers without reserving a table first. Unlike some other restaurants in Bergerac the owners gave us a hearty welcome and the food was excellent. Whilst eating there we see the owner accommodate a table of 18 English guests. No reservations, just please come in and sit down. The owners restaurant was buzzing all night. The other restaurant which was empty and turned us away for not making a booking was still empty when we walked passed 2 hours later. Guess which restaurant made...
