We love Saint-Gervais ever since we first visited in 1992. Alot has changed since then and after many summer visits and occasional winter holidays we returned for our family Christmas holiday 2022.
We spent several evenings in the town as well as using the cable car to travel to and from the ski resort at nearby Le Bettex.
The town has a great Christmas atmosphere, despite the lack of snow, with several trees and plenty of lights adding to the feel of Christmas. There are several bars, serving light snacks and a great range of beers, including noél specials. There are plenty of restaurants serving regional specialities plus an Italian restaurant serving gluten free. The main car park, whilst being a little tight, is free. Plus the main car park, with 700 spaces, for the telecabine is about 10 minutes across the new bridge from the town centre, so really convenient.
There is a small supermarket in the town, which sells everything that you'll need for your weekend or week long stay. At the bottom of the mountain there's an Intermarche plus a Mountain store by Decathlon, both really good stores and only 15 minutes from Saint-Gervais.
The nearby larger town of Sallanches is about 20 minutes away, where there's a train station and bus & coach stop from and to Geneva, which is about 75 to 90 minutes away. So all-in-all...
Read moreAt Gervais is a hidden Gem as it's ski area is huge it expands for kilometres, as far as the eye can see. It caters for beginner's to advanced skiers/snowboarder's & most importantly has a brilliant Folie Douce which is 100 times nicer than the 1 Chamonix has but then again at St Gervais it's up in the mountains not like Cham's 1 which is at the bottom of Brèvènt basically in the centre of town. It's only a 30 minute drive from Chamonix center so not far atall but i would highly recommend visiting here as i was there all season 2018/2019 & only found out this in my last month of my season as was not advertised in Cham but through locals & friends this is how i found out about St Gervais otherwise i wouldn't have found out & not visited but so so happy i did & went as it is definitely a hidden gem, so if you have enough time GO as it's way better than Brèvènt & Flègère if i'm...
Read moreI haven't been skiing in a while, and this was an amazing place to pick it back up. The mountain was well cared for and well groomed. I skied most of the red and a few black runs, but it looks like there is some good off piste. I was here in the middle of January, so their are not many good choices for fully open mountains close to where I travel for work. All my co-workers told me it wasn't worth it to drive 6hrs to go skiing for the weekend, but I can't...
