A big favourite traditional Savoyard restaurant of ours AND of all the visitors we have.
Sylvie and Serge are the back bone of their business and they work like trojans. We have visited many, many times as we spend our ski seasons and summers in St Gervais.
We have never had a bad experience or meal here, ever!
Sylvie and the waiting staff are friendly and welcoming. The offerings are delicious. The ease in which Serge cooks on the open fire grill is awesome. We have only ever tried meat offerings purely because the temptation of open fire grilled meat is too much. Each table receives a simple/rustic amuse-bouche to eat and the opportunity to order a house aperitif whilst perusing the menu. The rib of beef, the filet of beef, the loin of lamb and the Iberian pork are divine and not to be missed. The accompanying dishes are just right portion wise and our favourites are the creamiest potato gratin and the garlicky french beans.
For dessert, the artisanal ice creams are just about all we can fit in after the main portions but there are plenty more options. The children’s menu is limited and quite standard in what it offers. In fact, it is probably the only small thing about Le Galeta that could be improved. All the smaller guests we have taken would have loved smaller portions of the adult offerings, so we hope one day Sylvie and Serge will think to offer this.
To finish an evening with friends at Le Galeta, we share the fun and deceptively boozy multi spouted wooden teapot called a grole. It serves a hot liquor drink called café de l'amitié and guaranteed you’ll be ready to brave the cold walk home after a totally delicious and traditional...
Read moreAs much as I don’t like to leave a poor review for a good local restaurant that I have visited many times I feel I am left with no choice having tried to address the problem directly with the owner after the meal. The welcome that my family received when we arrived tonight was poor, unacceptable and very unfriendly.
We booked a table of 3 and arrived with a pushchair - this caused the owner of the restaurant to become panicked, he was rude saying that we were causing a problem and made a unnecessary scene in the dining room. This cannot be the first time you have seen a pushchair! His attitude appeared to be that we were causing him issues and really weren’t welcome.
When I attempted to address this with the owner afterwards saying that we’d enjoyed the meal but that the welcome wasn’t what would be expected he waved me away and wasn’t interested - he dismissed me with an abrupt ‘you caused me a problem’. The restaurant was not full.
Despite this, the food and other service was pretty good - It’ll be a while before we go...
