I had visited the place when I was in Bordeaux. Very beautiful Tower Gate. The Cailhau Gate which is a stop at one of two routes of the pilgrims from West Europe ( esp. France from Normandy and Calais ) to Santiago de Compostella, at St James remains, in Spain. One of the metal captures on the pavement tells about the same. The another tells the story of Alinnor de Aquitane - the contessa of Aquitane in 13 century , married 1st to the French king ,but later divorced because of dynasty battles. The second marriage of Eleanor was with the king Henry II Plantagenet of England. The Aquitane and Bordeaux were part of the kingdom of England with the port of Cales. From this union was born king Richard II the Lionsheart, who led one of Crusaders. He had four brothers William, Henry, Geoffrey and John. Unfortunately, no one of them left heirs. It was the end of the king's house of Plantagenet. But they had a heroic role for kingdom of England. The area is nice and protected by UNESCO Heritage...

Ornate carvings and a grand clock face add a touch of regal elegance, while the surrounding cobblestone streets and bustling energy of passersby create a thrilling, living tableau. Under the warm sunlight, the tower’s dark spires cast striking shadows, making it a captivating beacon of Bordeaux’s...
Read moreA stunning example of old gates of this city that seems to withstand the test of centuries. This gate commemorates the victory of Charles VIII of Fornoue of Italy. It stands about 35m high and I could sense its grandness and its part in the history of the walls that once covered this city. I absolutely loved visiting here and for €5 it's worth it. This is almost next door to Place de Bourse, which is one of the best things about Bordeaux is its walkability to most monuments. Absolutely recommended to visit and explore...
