Colmar Old Town — Attraction in Colmar-Ribeauvillé

Colmar is a really popular and busy spot. But one can see why that is. It is an unbelievably pretty town, with a very walkable and accessable town center. The old town is pretty compact and could be visited in one day. But make sure to give it a few days if possible. There are endless sights, architectual masterpieces on every corner with the typical buildings, lots of wonderful shops and endless dining options.

There's the impressive Collégiale St-Martin, the Église des Dominicains, the Église Saint-Matthieu, the Grand Rue, the Place du Marché Aux Fleurs, the Fontaine Schwendi, the Parc du Champ de Mars, Maison des Têtes, the Place du 2 Février, the Parc Montagne verte, the wonderful Marché couvert and of course Petite Venise. And that's just to name a few sights.

It's nice to just wander around and to get lost in the various lanes and streets of colmar. Nice butcher shops with local goodies, lots of delicous bakeries and of course the restaurants. Sauerkraut and Flammkuchen are local specialties of course. But there's a lot more than that. We very much enjoyed "Les Racines" (a bit hidden away) and "Le Fer Rouge" (right in the middle of the action). Good food, nice staff, high quality, fair prices.

We found out that most restaurants are dog-friendly. Inside and out, as in most of France.

Even though quite a busy town packed with visitors it's one of the most beautiful spots in France (city-wise). Definitely worth a visit for a couple of days. We'll be back again in...

Colmar is definitely our favourite town in Alsace after 5 days of visit. A must do together with Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Eguisheim, Ribeauvillé and indeed the splendid castle of Haut-Koeningsbourg. The whole of Colmar is a magical place! The whole city is a Christmas market and even with the cold it is difficult to keep the hands in the pocket as you would want to take pictures of everything! This city is full of beautiful houses for their shapes, colours, decorations, and everyone is incredibly friendly in Alsace ! Weihnachtsmarkt in Colmar ist das absolute Nonplusultra weihnachtlicher Magie. Diese malerische Stadt im Elsass übertrifft mit ihrer festlichen Atmosphäre alles, was ich je erlebt habe. Während meiner Reise führte mich mein Weg über den berühmten Christkindlesmarkt in Nürnberg und den beeindruckenden Weihnachtsmarkt in Straßburg, doch Colmar stellte alles in den Schatten. Nürnberg konnte bei weitem nicht mithalten, Straßburg war hervorragend, aber Colmar war ein Erlebnis, das seinesgleichen sucht.

Die gesamte Stadt wird zu einem einzigen Weihnachtswunderland. Die kunstvoll geschmückten und herrlich beleuchteten Fachwerkhäuser, die an zauberhafte Pfefferkuchen erinnern, verleihen Colmar eine unvergleichliche Kulisse. Es ist, als würde man durch die Seiten eines Märchenbuchs wandeln. Das Engagement der Bewohner, die mit Herzblut jedes Detail ihrer Häuser und Straßen dekorieren, hebt diesen Weihnachtsmarkt auf ein einzigartiges Niveau. Jeder Winkel dieser Stadt strahlt Wärme, Freude und weihnachtliche Geborgenheit aus.

Die Atmosphäre in Colmar ist so authentisch und inspirierend, dass sie selbst die kreativsten Vorstellungen übertrifft. Kein Disney-Film könnte diese Idylle einfangen. Wer in dieser Jahreszeit Colmar besucht, erlebt nicht nur einen Weihnachtsmarkt, sondern einen wahren Zauber, der die Sinne berührt und das Herz erfüllt.

Ein wichtiger Hinweis für alle, die dieses außergewöhnliche Erlebnis teilen möchten: Eine frühzeitige Reservierung in einem der charmanten Restaurants der Stadt ist unbedingt notwendig, da die Nachfrage überwältigend ist. Ohne Planung wird es schwer, die kulinarischen Highlights der Region zu genießen.
