We feel the need to share this review as we had an absolutely awful experience dining here last night.

There are two aspects that were wrong with our dinner: first one is regarding the quality of the food, and the second one which is something that I never expected. The lack of understanding and concern of the staff, from the waiter to the manager who both treated a 12-year-old child without any care. This made us leave the table fuming after more than one hour and 20 minutes of waiting. Their “best” and one of the most expensive dishes instead of a stew was a sort of soup with tasteless meat and a sour mush of potatoes and onions.

The waiter didn’t understand the difference between medium well and medium rare so my little one couldn't eat his steak. We had to send the steak back, showing the waiter a picture of how we wanted it to be cooked, only for him to bring it back the same and cold.

I’ll attach a picture of the steak after he returned it to the table.

We asked to cook it again and he said we'll have to wait at least 30 minutes. When I insisted telling him that my son didn't get to eat anything, he said we now need to wait for all the other orders to be served.

Another waitress, a young woman, this time came, and when I asked what can we get quicker than 20 minutes, she said Cordon bleu in 10 minutes. I agreed and asked her for another 2 portions of Cordon bleu and fries as well. After 2 minutes, the first waiter came back and said it would not be ready and it’s at least 30 minutes waiting time, maybe even more.

Absolutely disgraceful. The manager wasn’t even bothered. He just said that it was a misunderstanding and left without listening to us or offering a solution. Obviously the waiter is the one running the place and making decisions.

With the correct attitude, this all could have been avoided. We just wanted to enjoy a meal out, we were ready to pay for extra food just to have something to eat and not make a scene.

By the way, from all we had to eat, the Cordon bleu was the only edible dish, and it was just normal food, nothing fancy.

As the waiter did not want to fry my 12 years old son's steak for 2 more minutes and refused to bring any other edible food, we had to leave. We paid and asked to make a complaint to the manager. Even now, the manager couldn’t understand what was wrong. We had to tell him that a 12-year-old couldn’t eat a €30 piece of stake that he wanted to enjoy. The same stake we sent back to the kitchen 2 times. Only at this point he appeared to understand, acknowledged their mistake and apologised for the waiter’s behaviour and the situation. He then tried to convince us to come back inside. A bit too late, unfortunately.

We eat out very often and can definitely say we never experienced anything like this before, not in France or any other country.

We will also notify the authorities that regulate hospitality as our kids deserve more.

If you are sick of doing your job, don't do it anymore.

Again, @Chez Hansi, thanks for ruining our night in such a...

I should have read the recent reviews beforehand, specifically about the food lacking flavor.

I arrived and was seated immediately. Surrounding patrons were pleasant. I had some trouble deciding, and fell for the old trap of "still or sparkling" (which is how they get you to pay for water). I should have said "carafe" or "tap".

I ordered the Hansi Sauerkraut. The food arrived very quickly, in less than 5 minutes. The portion was a good size, and filling, and served quite hot, but there was very little flavor, either from the meat, potatoes, or sauerkraut. The "Alsatian white wine" must have been basically water.

To compensate for this bland main course, I ordered the Black Forest cake for dessert. Perhaps they did not want to imitate "Black Forest gateau", because the cake was just as flavorless, and served in the style of a child's lunch dessert at school. The cherries in the cake were dry and pathetic, and even the cherries in syrup on the side could not provide a decent complement.

Responses to other reviews by the owner explain that the food is "local" and "homemade". As someone also in the industry, I consider it VERY unlikely that the food is prepared in-house. It tastes either pre-made (frozen or from a tin), or at the very least, uses poor quality ingredients with very little preparation.

At €34 for the main dish, cake, and water, this restaurant can only be described as a tourist trap, plain and simple.

In any of the hotels or restaurants I've worked in, I would be embarrassed to serve what I received to my...

Disgusting place, spoiled the first impression of the restaurant’s in the Colmar. Glasses and cutlery are dirty. The waitress smiled sweetly and ran away right at the time of our order. Ignorance of English is not even worth mentioning, this is understandable. When the waitress had already fully begun to take our order, a man came up and, with a wide smile, asked what we would take and asked us to leave the establishment, since one dish and drink for each is not serious. It turns out that if you want to visit this restaurant, then at least you need to arrange a whole banquet. As a result, wasted 20 minutes of time, besides, they were not even allowed to go to the toilet. I put zero points and I do not advise anyone to visit this restaurant because after a long wait you can simply be kicked out. Update. Comment about the answer of owner. Your website states the type of restaurant is a beer bar, so the fact that you don't accept people only for snacks is nonsense. In any case, according to the French law on consumer protection, you have no right to refuse service in this situation. I advise you to be more customer-oriented and study the laws of your country. I hope no tourist stumbles upon your...

We were here at the end of June, a beautiful warm evening. We sat outside. The atmosphere was very romantic. We had gordon bleu and tartare - I emphasize the real French - cut larger pieces of meat - great. To go with it, a classic salad with chicory, onion and dressing - I love these little things that captivate me with their simplicity. Of course, a bottle of wine. My favorite wine to go with the meal is Edelzwicker, my wife wanted to try a different wine, but I insisted - in the end she was amazed by this choice - she liked the wine very much. The staff was nice. I speak a little French, so they were tolerant of me and did not force me to speak English even when I made mistakes :) We stayed here until closing time and we must to leave - a shame, we could have had another bottle. Chez Hansi is a very pleasant establishment and we will be happy to return here next year. I highly recommend it to everyone.

This is a small restaurant and it's located near the center of the tourist district. What that means is, you will want to make a reservation or arrive just before they open. We were second in the queue at 11:30 and so we were seated immediately after they checked for anyone with a reservation. Friendly service with an English menu even though we clearly do not speak any more French than "Bonjour" and "Merci." We opted for a carafe of wine and decided to share the "Sauerkraut royale." Again with the friendly waiter who served it up for us. So. Much. Food. Three different sausages and a slice of pork loin with a lot of sauerkraut. Thankfully, there's mustard on the table and with a tiny bit, it really made the sausages even more delicious. A fabulous lunch and in a charming little restaurant.
