Gelateria del porto is one of the best ice cream parlours I have ever been to. I have tried ice cream in several places in Italy - Rome, Naples and can say only a couple of them meet or exceed standard of this Gelateria in Antibes. The pistachio flavour is the star and is the best offered in any Gelateria in nice or antibes. Every year they introduce couple of new flavours as well. The sorbets are excellent as well and are made with the best fresh fruit in season. They also offer take away in insulated boxes that keep ice cream frozen for atleast 2 hours. For famous flavours it is recommended to place an order few hours in advances before going to collect them. The Gelateria is often open untill very late in the night. The staff/servers are very friendly, understanding and do not rush customers. their ability to remember returning customers and make the human connection, sets them apart from rest of the Gelaterias in the region. The Gelateria is supposed to be shifted to Juan les pins under the name Riviera Glaces by the present owner and i am looking forward to visit the new place in...
Read moreUnfortunately, Jean Marc, the proprietor of Gelateria del Porto for many years, has retired. This season 2019), new owners are now operating in the same space. The interior of the Gelateria has changed as have the staff. But the flavors are mostly the same, and Jean Marc's name can still be seen above the entrance. This suggests that Jean has licensed his name to the current owners. In recent years he had told me he was planning an exit, and would share his secrets for a price. Whether he did or not is a moot point: the "new" Gelateria del Porto is at best a faint echo of the past: the sorbets are not as fresh, nor as delicate as the master's. The ice creams are heavy and uninspiring. The presentation is often sloppy. Several friends confirm this first impression. So sad. Jean Marc, if you see this review, and have some type of relationship with the current operators, please do something!! In the meantime, my passion for visiting Antibes is on life support. All things must pass, I suppose. ...
Read moreI've spent 10 years around Nice city area, and it's simply the best ice cream I've ever had after 40 years of living, that's it, that's all! To give an example, each time I get an ice cream there I'm like "gosh the flavors are so tasty and vivid, let's have another one as soon as I'm done just to try some other flavors and make sure they're really good". I never do such thing at other ice cream spots cause I'm usually all set after having one ice cream. They're generally so sweet that I have enough with one. But man oh man, I never have this "too sweet" feeling at Gelateria Del Porto. I was actually there yesterday during my lunch break. After an intense morning of work I jumped on my bike and did a quick Nice - Antibes round trip. We're Saturday and I'm already wondering when I should go back without feeling guilty hehe can't...
