Small restaurant with a family atmosphere with excellent service, a certain charm and very good service. The quality-price ratio is correct. Little variety of seafood and fish (maybe it depends on the day). In fact they didn't have any fish of the day. We would have liked to find more variety of seafood, but apart from snails and oysters they didn't have much (no spider crabs, no lobsters... The red prawns we ordered are boiled (so they are not fresh or tasty at all, we expected them to be brought to us grilled and with the same flavor as the red prawns from Huelva or Palamós...with those tasty heads.. .but maybe the type of seafood from that area of the Atlantic has a different flavor and they cook it differently). I understand that large seafood is boiled but, for me, it is sacrilege that prawns or crayfish are boiled... On the other hand, in general everything we ordered was served too cold, straight out of the refrigerator, We ordered a cheese board with local cold cuts that were stiff, so the flavor is not appreciated if it is not served at room temperature. The desserts were a little sad, and without further ado, chocolate mousse in a plastic container (clearly industrially made) and a kind of cheese cake that seemed homemade, excessively cold and with the entire top layer burnt. The oysters, however, were very good, a little too salty for my taste. But you have to adapt to the products from the waters of that area and perhaps they are saltier than what I am used to.
Our experience in the restaurants of La Rochelle is that the product is not comparable to Galician seafood. But the others are very good.
Well, you...
Read moreSuperb oyster bar, delicious local produce and lovely service. We stopped here on a whim, my wife wanted oysters and considering the location we expected a tiny bit of a tourist trap. We were wrong, this was one of the most memorable spots we ate at during our visit. No surprises as to why this is one of the top spots to eat for foodies in La Rochelle. This tiny oyster bar has superb local produce, an outstanding wine menu and friendly service. While the terrace at the front is great for people watching, we were with our daughter so the waiter kindly took us out back to the quiet alleyway where we ate in peace. We chose the panache of oysters and some local saucisson and were delighted to have it served with delicious bread and local butter. The rose from the Ile de Rai was great and the white wine spot on. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to get a real taste of...
Read moreWe were looking for some great seafood on our first night in La Rochelle and this place came up as a good option on a Google search.
They took online bookings which was great as it looked small from the outside so didn’t want to risk going without a reservation on a Saturday night.
On arrival we had the choice of sitting inside or if we were OK going out at the back we could have a table outdoors - we were fine with the back area and the atmosphere was fine once most the tables were full.
The menu was mainly seafood (though did have cheese and meat platters) - so we picked our favourite items to make up a seafood platter. Oysters were great as were the prawns (ordered more at the end!) the crab was quite small and poor value, sardine rillette was so tasty.
Staff were great and spoke good English.
Overall we enjoyed our meal but good seafood unfortunately...
