Clos des Menuts — Attraction in Libourne

This place is an absolute travesty of an establishment.

We were instructed by the tourism office that this was one of two wineries within Saint Émilion that offered tastings. With this information we expected a busy, vibrant venue filled with people tasting wine and enjoying a cool cellar. What we found was an anything but. The joint was empty, aside from the most uninterested and rude server I have ever come across.

We asked to do a tasting, and were offered two drabs of wine for 10€ each. A joke. The first wine was a disgrace to the region, a wine so bad, that we decided to leave without finishing the tasting.

Very enjoyable self-guided of Clos des Menus' incredible underground caves and and storage area for many of their Grand Crus vintages.

I came in on the recommendation of a producer and vintner which I spoke to previously who spoke very highly of CdM specifically.

The shop above would not let me taste or try any wines without buying the whole bottles unfortunately... not sure why this was exactly as the signage all states that degustations are offered (?!?), however still a good visit and range available...

Very unfriendly place. We toured the cellars then asked if we could do a tasting. The girl said tasting was over. It was 12:30. I asked when we could come back and she replied no more tastings today. I then asked about tomorrow, “There are no tastings tomorrow.” I asked which days will they do tastings? She replied, they don’t know. Now reading reviews I see that this exact rudeness has been happening for some time. She must be the owner’s daughter. Why else has she not be fired?...
