This magnificent garden was commissioned by the Chancellery, which was the residence of Catherine de Medici's Intendant. Two perpendicular paths and two others running diagonally delineate eight large triangles of lawn decorated with delicate santolina scrolls. The original fountain has been restored to its center, as it was in the time of Diane de Poitiers.
The raised terraces, which protect the garden from the flooding of the Cher River, are adorned with basins and offer a view of shrubs, yews, spindle trees, boxwoods, and oleanders, which punctuate the design of the flowerbeds. More than a hundred standard hibiscuses bloom here in summer. Between these shrubs, flowerbeds emphasize the rigorous geometry of this garden.
All around, climbing Iceberg roses adorn the walls supporting the terraces.
