Musée des Beaux-Arts — Attraction in Mulhouse

I like art and travel all over to see it. I've been to most of the big art museums all over the world and have seen hundreds if not thousands of paintings. The Mona Lisa is beguiling, Water Lilies are beautiful and Picasso is intriguing.

Then I stumble upon this place in one of the hotel pamphlets. I had never heard of it and had not come across it when looking up Museums in Mulhouse. I guess when you live in the shadow of the National Train and Auto museums you don't get as much advertising space.

It should! The collection is good but it should be famous for one of the paintings alone.

Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret's "La douleur d'Orphee"

It is an incredible painting, Telling the story of Orpheus and the loss of his love, the painting depicts his utter despair. It was moving. I've never had a painting make me sad. It was weird and great at the same time.

Lovely museum. I was delighted to see a Peter Breughel ( younger) painting on display. I am now in my sixties but saw a poster of the painting in my junior school days and have never forgotten it! The quiet room/ art room was a great addition. ( Children will surely be encouraged by this!) Well I am a big kid and am now able to say I have exhibited at the museum! It may not be exhibited for long but the five minutes it took, I enjoyed. I called my drawing "La Gare" after our train trip round Europe. Regards...

Ce petit musée présente une collection de magnifiques peintures du xviii siècle. Mais je n'ai pas pu tout apprécier, les 5 gardiennes fonctionnaires n'ont pas souhaité que le seul visiteur que j'étais , prenne son temps. En effet, les gardiennes inquiètes, voire effrayées, ont appellé les gendarmes en déploiement à proximité du musée pour appliquer un plan vigipirate ...contre moi. Une action totalement hallucinante, inattendue et tout autant stupide et irréfléchie puisque d'une part j'étais le seul visiteur , et d'autre part, mon sac avait déjà été vérifié. Je fus contrôlé par les gendarmes qui vérifièrent que je n'appartenais à un quelconque réseau terroriste. La discussion fut froide, sèche, voire très autoritaire et je fus , "invité à quitter les lieux". J'ai 16 ans, Je suis un garçon tranquille, j'aime l'art picturale mais pas que, et j'avais choisi de visiter cet endroit . Je ne comprends pas pourquoi tout à basculer aussi brutalement. pu rester. Manu militari, J'ai donc quitté le musée mais je suis revenu pour avoir des explications. J'avais l'impression de parler à des troncs d'arbres pourtant ma question était simple : Pourquoi avoir appelé les gendarmes contre moi ?. Aucune réponse ou soit des "on ne savait pas". Une fonctionnaire avec un air condescendant se sentant désemparé retourna chercher à nouveau les gendarmes pour répondre à leur place : hallucinant, et je n'ai toujours pas mes réponses.
