Warto Luwr oglądać również z zewnątrz, ponieważ nie jest to typowy prosty budynek muzeum, który nie wyróżnia się okolicznych budowli. Muzeum Luwry jest już widoczne z daleka dzięki pięknej Kolumnadzie budowanej na wzór starożytnych rzymskich świątyń, patrząc na tą budowle można się zapomnieć, i pomyśleć że jest się w Rzymie a nie Paryżu. Kolumnadę zbudowano pod koniec XVII wieku. Budynek stawi połączenie stylów architektonicznych typowych dla Francji ale połączonych ze stylem starożytnych Włoch.
