Surly service with worse cold food, inside a lovely setting. Terrible food, service, and experience at any price.
Read on, but the food was probably a safety hazard.
Easily one of the worst combination of poor food and poor service I have had on any vacation, ever. Yeah, it was expensive, but I knew the prices going in. However, this would have been terrible service and food at any price.
My croque madam arrived stone cold. The bread that was clearly toasted/grilled was cold, inside was cold, the egg on top was cold. It was late in the day, I was starving, and my choices were: eat a cold egg/ham/cheese sandwich and risk getting sick, complain and risk the waitress or kitchen staff doing something to the food, or report it to the manager after the meal. I was so hungry I decided to just eat it, risk getting sick on vacation, and then tell the manager after the meal. I paid the entire meal, in full, and did not ask for any discount.
The waitress disappeared for extended periods, provided surly answers to basic questions. (Q: What kind of vegetables in the "seasonal vegetables"? A: I don't know. It's a surprise.) We finally had to ask another person (her manager?) for additional water.
The four of us drank our carafe of water and needed another at the end of the meal. When our waitress brought it - it was yellowish. I wish I had taken a picture. It looked like dishwasher. We asked for a different carafe, she argued saying it was fresh. I asked for a replacement anyhow. She whipped it off the table, returned immediately, slapped a new carafe on the table "There. It's fresh.", spun around, and was gone.
When the very pleasant manager arrived, I told him of the cold food, poor service, and told him I would just pay it. He wanted to know more details - saying he was the manager and neededto know, which I provided. However, if he was really this concerned he would have stopped by at any other point before presenti the bill.
It was an expensive meal, but again, I knew that going in. We had been in the museum for hours, it was the mid afternoon, and the menu looked promising, if pricy. Absolutely not worth it under any...
Read moreI had great hopes for this place. The line to get in was surprisingly non-existent, we got seated right away. I went around 4:00 so an hour before closing (keep that in mind if you need/want more time) We ordered the hot chocolate, Mont Blanc with pistachios, water, and an ice cream sundae (vanilla and lemon ice cream) We got our Mont Blanc pretty quickly but it was the wrong one, we told the waiter and he did give us the right one in the end and was pretty apologetic. It would've just been nice to just get the right one in the first place (it would also save them from having to throw it out) Now let's talk about the hot chocolate. It was practically a very dark chocolate bar that got melted and served in a mug. Also definitely enough for more than one person, if you drink too much you feel like you may throw up. If you like very dark rich hot chocolate this is exactly your cup of tea, or should I say hot chocolate. But if you're not into that definitely go somewhere else. Next, the Mont Blanc was definitely not deserving of their most "popular/famous" pastry. The pasta like outside was way to sweet and there was just too much of it. The whipped cream inside was unsweetened which did counteract some of the sweet taste but not super well. There was also barely any meringue, which was my favorite part. Overall it is definitely over hyped and just a mediocre dessert. The ice cream was fine but I would not suggest eating the vanilla and lemon together. The vanilla was good but not anything special, the lemon on the other side was more like a sorbet and not creamy. It also was pretty sour and kind of jaring. Something about the lemon ice cream made me feel like I needed to spit stuff up, I know it sounds gross but it just felt like there was constantly something gross in the back of my throat. The service was fine but we didn't get our water until we asked again and we had to bring it up to their attention that the mont blanc didn't have pistachios. Overall I expected more and was pretty...
Read moreSo this place is a little confusing, came at 11:45 to get lunch, and two people left before me bc they were told that they were only serving lunch not pastries and coffee. When I tried to walk in to look they asked me to wait, I just wanted to look inside, First you notice a sign that says Cafe Richelieu on the wall and then Angelina on the glass blocking the view into the restaurant, which was a little confusing. By telling their customers there is no pastries, it seemed maybe they did not want to serve just pastries, but maybe wanted to serve lunch on top of the pastries. The place is underwhelming and ordering from here, is not like the other Angelina’s, but we were hungry and tried it anyway. Our waiter was very kind, and efficient. We had the quiche which was meh, the club was meh, and the eggs Benedict with bacon which was delicious, and the rigatoni which I think was the best meal, very flavorful. I had the Angelina iced tea which is not worth the 8.50, two limonades, which turned out to be sprite or maybe the waiter misunderstood, a cappuccino that was not great, nor the iced coffee. Make sure to ask for a carafe of water, which is free. Plus we ordered two desserts, Tarte Citron, which tasted like Key Lime pie, it was very good, and the Millifuelle Framboise, which was my favorite. The four of us shared them and honestly it’s just a preference, it was two against two. I felt the raspberry was less sweet and the lemon was sweeter. I like less sweet, so again just a preference. Someone took pictures of umbrellas outside and a very nice restaurant. I saw umbrellas across the courtyard, but there were not any where we were eating, so I’m not sure if someone has confused them or if there are two on the property. There might have been a forth page on the menu that I forgot to take. Our bill was around...
