TL;DR: Poor, mildly accommodating hostel at an okay price. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra few euros and get a better place to stay. It's an okay place to stay for a day or two, but do not expect to make a long term visit in this place.
I visited Paris with a large group of friends for a few days and stayed in this hostel, here are my experiences:
I'll start with the front desk: The guy that was at the front desk 90% of the time was a cool younger guy who spoke English pretty well. The other staff there are also pretty nice.
General Appearance: The hostel is in decent condition, you can tell it is older but it isn't in terrible condition despite its age.
The Rooms: My room was a small room for two people with a single bunk bed and a sink. The total size of the room was about 2 bunk beds wide and about one and a half bunk beds long. The room only had one outlet, but that was acceptable because we'd just swap charge times on it, however my 10 female friends all sharing a room weren't so lucky; they all had to share one outlet to charge their phones and cameras- you can guess how that went. The bed was neither comfortable nor uncomfortable, and the blankets were extremely thin. My first night in the hostel was sleepless because I was so cold due to the heating not working and the window not closing properly, however the staff accommodated for this and adjusted the heating to make it warmer.
The rooms are VERY insecure on the first floor though, as the building is designed in such a way where you can jump into any of the first floor rooms through the windows. There were 3 break-ins in a 2 day period, with the first one resulting in ALL extra money being stolen from the girls suitcases. With just the money stolen in the first break-in, we could have afforded a hostel that costs twice as much per night(which would have been very worth it honestly). After the first break in, we kept all of our valuables on us, preventing the second 2 break-ins to result in stolen items. It did however ruin the spirits of the girls knowing they were staying in a room that was broken into and searched by thieves.
The bathrooms: The WC is decent, with a toilet and a sink, however there is nothing to dry your hands.
The showers: Showers will leave all of your stuff soaked unless you hang it up, because there is nothing to rest it on. The water sprays out of the shower right on the floor(and in some cases the shower just doesn't drain period). Definitely bring shower shoes. The showers on my floor were locked, so I unlocked them and I was greeted by a disgusting smell and a shower full of non-draining, brown water. At least the locking was a warning to me.
WiFi: Definitely not free as advertised, and not accessible from any room except from down in the lobby. To get access to the WiFi, you have to pay 2 euros to get 24 hours of access, however keep in mind there is a limited quantity of WiFi logins to give out, so with many people in the hostile at once you will be left without WiFi.
Breakfast: Its nothing to write home about. It will get you going, but isn't anything hot or prepared, it is just biscuits and other foods like that. The breakfast is free, however I suspect they just include the cost of food in the price of the room and call it free.
Location: Good location, with metro stops and restaurants all around.
All things considered, I'd look elsewhere. With the amount of money you're going to be spending to go to Paris, just spend a few extra euros each night and stay somewhere nicer. The headache I got staying here is not worth the amount of money I saved by staying here. That being said, If you just plan to spend a day or two, it might suit you, just be cautious. There are just a lot of issues that I had to deal with that I wouldn't have had I stayed elsewhere.
If you decide not to heed my advice, keep ALL valuables on you...
Read moreThis isn't so much a review as a public warning. Avoid this place and pray you don't get room 54 if you're unlucky enough to stay here. The place is a cesspool of filth, and the smell of damp in the room almost made me throw up after coming from a day in the fresh city air. I wouldn't be surprised to learn I have some form of lung disease in the coming weeks, after spending 2 nights sleeping here. There was no soap with the sinks in the room and only a single plug socket for the entire room. The showers didn't drain properly so you end up in a petri dish of your own dirty water, combined with the existing grime in the showers. The toilet lacked a seat so you're forced to hover, which was probably more sanitary than if there was a seat given the state of the rest of this place. The beds are something out of a nightmare, they will literally eat you alive. The sheets are covered in blood and other stains from previous users because they clearly aren't washed correctly. When I actually lay in the bed I could feel my skin crawling with bed bugs, and spotted a fair few of the bugs with my own eyes. It's come as no surprise that I'm now covered in hundreds of little spots from where I've been bitten... This place should absolutely be avoided, and ideally shut down for being a health...
