The tourist office is located directly across the street from one of the RER stations (Versailles Château Rive Gauche) so very conveniently located. They do not have a public toilet.
We rented bikes here for our day in Versailles. They have kid size bikes; the kid size bikes come with helmets, which are required by French law. The adult bikes were serviceable and came with rear racks, a lock, but no hemet (rent one for €1). I think they also have front baskets for hire for the adult bikes. Honestly, the kids bikes were top of the line -- but the adult bikes were heavy and hard to manage, so minus one star. As a shorter adult, I wish I had put myself down for a kid's bike instead. The 26" kids bike was a SWEET ride.
It takes longer than you would think to rent the bikes; probably took 30 minutes for us to get out the door, so make sure you budget the time into your itinerary. You have to sign a bunch of forms, and the person who checked out the bikes to us did a safety check on each bike, and gave us a loaner flat repair kit just in case.
The scary part is that the deposit on the bikes is like €800 for an adult bike, €400 for a kids bike. I had a €2400 pending charge for the deposit, so make sure that you have enough credit limit on your card. When you return the bikes, the staff will do another check and then refund the pending charge. We had no problems with this, but the amount is just alarming...
Read moreThe woman who helped us was very nice however after the fact we felt the information wasnt very helpful. We purchased a pass to view the palace, the gardens and le grand trianon, which was a separate residence and garden. We were there for a day only and we felt that wasn't sufficient time to view all three. We also felt that the trianon property wasnt worth the effort it took to get there. We almost didn't have time to view the palace after spending time on the gardens and at trianon as the woman who helped us suggested we visit those areas first to avoid the line to view the palace. The water show was also a disappointment and not worth delaying our access to the palace. Not quite sure why those fountains aren't on all the time as the so called show was basically nothing more than turning on all the fountains at...
Read moreBought 8 tickets not knowing people under 18 were free. There's not much there to indicate this pricing. They would not refund us nor did they care. All they cared about is getting their "product" back that hadn't been used. Really annoyed at this situation but this is a box office and not a tourism office. They really don't care about people visiting.
The the owner mentioned below, you must have your children with you to buy tickets or else you will lose money, which is the weirdest policy I've ever heard. As I previously stated, it's not about tourism, it's about...
