excellent location, very near the train station and minutes away from the palace. Breakfast was simply superb, with fresh fruits and squeezed juices. Pastries and everything else was of top quality. The reception of the hotel is beautifully decorated with a map that impresses you. That's what you'd expect in a Sofitel. . On the negative side: I still can't believe the attitude of the staff. The first night we found out that the bathtub didn't have hot water. We filled the tub and still, water was mildly warm. We called the reception, someone came and said that we had to let it running. We filled a 2nd bathtub, same result. We let it run and kept on wasting water. No change. We gave up and around 11 in the night we asked for another room. We rang and the other manager now told us to go down to the reception. We packed (no help offered). This manager gave us the same response: you have to wait for hot water. I said we waited 1 hour and wasted about 500 liters of water. Seems enough. Then he said we didn't use the tap mixer correctly. We got another room in the same category and this one had no problems. The rooms are nothing special, relatively small, but clean and adequate. The next morning I told the morning manager that we ended up going to sleep at midnight with this business of the water, and she gave the same answer, that I should have left the water running. I told her we did that and that there could be a problem with the tap mixer, but it seems she got bored of me and went back to do better things in her computer while I was still talking to her. When we checked out, same reaction. I told her we had wasted over 500 liters of water, plus the water we actually used afterwards to get a bath. No answer (UN Habitat recommends calculating 200 l of water per person per day for sustainable city). I understand the tap can have a problem, but I do not understand the attitude of the staff and the total lack of empathy or manners with its guests. We didn't hear the gist of an apology in the entire stay, no word of giving us even a free cup of coffee as a sign of good will for the inconvenience. Certainly not the service I'd expect from Sofitel. Next time I will go to the IBIS, same chain on the other side of the building, much cheaper and probably same service (difficult to...
Read moreAs I had booked this hotel in November 2023, I was impressed with the quality, the staff, and the location next to Versailles Palace. I was slightly disappointed on this return visit on my first day therewas no bottles of water in the fridge . The armchair next to the bed was badly in need of an upholster as the fabric and stuffing were separating, leaving a big gap. The desk chair was in the same condition, though not as big a gap The wardrobe had only one hanger those satin padded hangers .this is the first time I have opened a wardrobe to find a lack of hangers in a hotel
After my shower, I discovered the dressing gown was a ladies' sizing . I quickly received a bigger size after I came back from sightseeing .
For English visitors, there is a lack of television channels, only a BBC news programme. The radio channels are limited as well, with no classical music options or English channels. I had to use my tablet for music.
Then on the night I went to the bar whilst reviewing my pictures from the days sightseeing from the corner of my eye I joined a mouse which then promptly ran under the bar , I do apologise to the young couple who where in the bar I am terrible with names thankfully they saw the mouse as well. The bar staff did not react , they had a look, and then they had a discussion with the restaurant staff from the other side of the bar. Then a 2nd mouse appeared the bar man's only comment was he did not like.mice.
Apart from these hiccups the stay was enjoyable staff were excellent and most helpful when I reported the chairs, dressing gown , and lack of channels the young Indian boy on reception went to the trouble of printing off a list of the channels to see if there was any English speaking channels but it was just the same as flicking through with the remote control.
The hotel is in an excellent position for visiting the Palace, literally next to the Petit Ecrure, then the Palace literally on the doorstep. for a history buff. I can not say more it was an excellent base to...
Read moreHôtel was quite posh downstairs but upstairs was only nice . Managed to get a parking space in the garage - which was a rarity apparently and luckily someone was just leaving. |The room was average sized and the view was good. Had an attic room with a balcony, but wasn’t the type where you could sit outside. Think some of the other rooms without balconies probably had the nicer decoration. |Food and drink prices are ridiculous. The services is slow. We are both gluten intolerant and headed out to try and find somewhere to eat which we couldn’t. We ended up in the hotel. |What a disaster….|We got the Angus steak as only gluten free main we could have. |This was a lump of steak, no sauce and a couple of lettuce leaves for €37 each. No chips or sauce as on the menu as there was no alternative to this that was gluten free, but still charged the same amount of money. This is not acceptable. Service was very slow and it appeared the more money you have the quicker you get served.|I might have been dressed in boohoo men’s clothes but I’m a millionaire and they obviously weren’t aware of this 😂|Waited ages to get some gluten free bread to go with dinner to hopefully fill us up a bit. Got a few bits but no butter. We politely asked the quite miserable looking young girl waitress who said she would get some. She didn’t. Every time we tried to catch her eye she rushed past us, obviously on purpose, and just looked the other way. We gave up in the end and had dry bread. Not what you expect from a (apparently) 4 star hotel! |Oh,and the bottle of Prosecco we had was vastly overpriced but u suppose to be expected. |Breakfast was ok, but after being told most of the full English was gluten free I had to rush to the room and it took us a while to leave 💩|Check in and out was ok. Bathroom shower needs a manual to work it out. |Overall, we were really looking forward to staying here but were left vastly underwhelmed and wishing we had booked...
