First thing first, we live in Versailles and go to restaurants quite often. This one was a disappointment.
The manager met us at the doors: he looked and spoke quite arrogantly. Typically in Versailles all service people in the restaurants are very friendly and welcoming, didn’t feel that vibe at all here.
The waiter was nice, but appeared incompetent when we asked him to share his opinion. He proposed the dish which wasn’t great at all (although cited as a «recommendation » of the place). Frankly, it looked like a plate in a shitty canteen and not like a restaurant dish. We had our table full of empty plates until the end of dinner. And when he tried to clean it he dropped a plate and dirty knife on us, didn’t feel nice.
The food in general looked bad: the plates are old, zero esthetics (not typical neither for modern nor for traditional places in Versailles) the prices are higher the average compared to the rest of Versailles, the taste is 3/5, esthetics 0/5.
A cherry on the top: the actual reason of why we chose this place to visit was to eat snails (surprisingly was one of the two places that served snails that evening) and those were bad. Completely unexpected because typically whichever resto you go to in France the snails are normal, okay. Here they were just bad: the shells cracked and broke. The first time I saw this. For me it looked like they were completely overused (by the previous customers) and when I thought about it my client experience dropped to zero. We reported that to waiter, there was no reaction. So weird.
General impression: very bad. Do not recommend. A kebab around the corner is...
Read moreIt was my last night in France, and I decided I would go out for a nice meal to end my three week vacation. At just after 7pm, I chose to go to 'Le Limousin'. I walked in and asked if they were open for dinner, and the response was "we're full". I thought he was joking. I looked around to a restaurant 90% empty, and replied, "ok" (awkwardly), and turned around to walk away. He then said if I wanted to eat inside I could. I said that I just wanted to get something to eat. I was showed to a table in the back corner out of the way. I don't speak or read French, so I had to take a few minutes to figure out the menu using my phone to translate. I ordered my meal with a beer, and waited. I sat there looking at all those empty tables outside, but was still happy to get a seat. I enjoyed my meal, and was gone within 30 minutes.
I understand that Versailles is a busy place, and they are probably very busy. I was just one guy looking to get something nice to eat. I sat there feeling like they weren't really interested in my business, and that I wasn't good enough to eat at their establishment. I definitely didn't feel like I was welcome there. Don't worry, chances are I won't be coming back.
The food...
Read moreThis was my first evening in Versailles and I was very pleased with my choice to eat at Le Limousin. It's a classic French restaurant with fantastic ambience and impeccable service. The waiter was very obliging and even replaced my mocktail after a wasp died in it! I had the green beans with parmesan for an entree and was happy with the simplicity of it. For me main I ordered the grilled duck with au gratin as my side. As you'd expect from a French restaurant, bread comes complimentary. I also ordered the rice pudding cake. It wasn't quite to my liking, being used to a more creamy texture, but the flavour was rich and sweet. I think the syrup was a bit much but I can see others really enjoying this. I would definitely come back here in the future should I find myself in...
