Kirnitzschtal tramway — Attraction in Bad Schandau

This tram line is advertised as a touristic place of interest which is simply a lie. This is a totally standard tram line, goes next to a regular road, it does have a forest on both sides but sorry, nothing special about it. If you read about it being a tram in the mountains or something like that, just forget about it. A REGULAR tram, that's what it is. Wanna spend around 10 euro for it, your right but do not call it a place of interest. I have more 'rural' lines in my city, so seriously... Die Fahrt mit der historischen Straßenbahn durch das wunderschöne Kirnitzschtal ist ein besonderes Erlebnis für Groß und Klein. Auf der 8 km langen, eingleisigen Strecke mit zahlreichen Zwischenhalten lassen sich das Treiben entlang des Weges sowie das herrliche Panorama der Sandsteinwände, die das Flusstal umgeben, entspannt beobachten. Auch Technikinteressierte kommen während der Fahrt und während des Rangierens auf ihre Kosten. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Bezahlen kann man, wenn man nicht ohnehin ein auf der Strecke gültiges Deutschlandticket hat, direkt bei Einstieg in die Bahn beim Schaffner. Erwachsene bezahlen pro Fahrt 7 Euro, für Hin- und Rückfahrt 10 Euro. Kinder ab 6 bezahlen jeweils die Hälfte. Die Familienkarte kostet 25 Euro. Vom Kurpark Bad Schandau fährt die Bahn bis zum Lichtenhainer Wasserfall. Dort und entlang der Strecke gibt es mehrere Ausflugslokale. Der Lichtenhainer Wasserfall ist Ausgangspunkt für den etwa halbstündigen, recht bequemen Aufstieg zum Kuhstall. Auch dort gibt es eine Bergwirtschaft (schließt im Sommer gegen 17 Uhr) deren Preise etwas moderater sind im Vergleich zu den Lokalen im Tal. Der Aufstieg zum berühmten Felsentor lohnt sehr und ist auch für Kinder geeignet. Da die Parkplätze in Bad Schandau an Sommerwochenenden am Kurpark unter Umständen schwer zu finden sind, lohnt es sich mitunter, an der nächsten Haltestelle talaufwärts zu parken. Die Fahrtzeiten kann man auf der Seite der Bahn anrufen, allerdings muss man hier schon den Namen kennen, sonst lässt sich die Recherche nicht durchführen. Im Sommer sind aller 30 Minuten Fahrten vorgesehen, gegen Abend dann etwas seltener. Die letzte Bahn vom Lichtenhainer Wasserfall nach Bad Schandau fährt...

Nice journey into the forest by tram!

The tram starts from the car park of the small town "Bad Schandau". The town itself is quite calm and relaxing and the tram route is also quite nice offering great views of the rocks and the forest alongside the river.

I would not say it's extremely scenic and is a must to do activity here, but with kids it's fine. If you love to trek, you can ignore this.

Remember that they only accept cash and the ticket will be sold at a reduced price if you have a day ticket for all...
