We arrived at this hotel a little early for a 3pm check in, however our room was ready for us, which we were really pleased with after an early morning journey. Our first impressions of the hotel were like 'wow', we loved the 'decor', and it's done in a way where it looks like it is incomplete. Very original. Our check-in host was very polite, friendly, and helpful. |Our room was clean, cozy, and laid out perfectly. I was a little surprised to find no closet to hang your clothes, but our room did have an open clothes rack. Bed was comfortable, pillows were soft, and we were really comfortable with the temperatures. WIFi is good, and tv stations are limited, but we always use screen mirroring, which is where you can connect your phone to the TV, so we can watch Netflix, etc.|Breakfast is amazing, although some foods were a little cool. However, I don't think we have ever been in a buffet breakfast bar, whereas the food is hot. Plenty to choose from and most of is a healthy option. I had an omelette, which are made on order. Delicious! The service is excellent and provided with a friendly greeting and throughout. The lady that was there on last Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday was lovely. Sorry I didn't catch her name.|The location is a little off the center. However, we love walking so it didn't bother us and there's a tube station across the road. We walked to the river and just followed that until you reached the center, and it's not too difficult to navigate your way around Berlin from the hotel. |It was a bit tricky getting from the airport because we couldn't find the FEX train for some reason, but we got on the RE8 to Ostanhof and walked from there to the hotel. About 20 minutes to walk down a main road. Or you can catch the S9 train which takes you to Jannowitzbrucke station, which is about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. |My favorite part of this hotel is the bar. Unbelievable service, so friendly, so professional, and the bar staff always remembered us and what we were drinking. A special mention to Minder and Sonia for this incredible service, especially Minder. The choice of drinks is slightly limited, but I got to try some drinks I have never had before. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we went out in the morning at about 9am and didn't get back until around 9pm, so much to do and see. |One thing we didn't do was visit the East Berlin wall, which you can walk to from the hotel, and we didn't know it was that close until the last evening.|If you are thinking of staying here, I would highly recommend this hotel. |The only reasons I didn't give 5 out of 5 were the cool food at breakfast, limited bar selection, and the location. All three were not a problem for us. However, some people might find this a bigger issue. Keep up the good work, guys. We miss...
Read moreTerrible Experience – Items Stolen, No Full Compensation, and Poor Customer Service
I am absolutely appalled by my experience at Hotel Catalonia Berlin in August 2024, and I feel compelled to share my story to warn others.
During my stay, I had personal belongings stolen from my room, including two laptops, my children’s Nintendo Switches, and several other valuable items, amounting to a total of 4,900 Euro. The reason for the theft? A hotel cleaning staff member allowed a thief to enter my room while it was being cleaned, and they stole my possessions right under the hotel's watch.
The hotel staff initially assured me that they would compensate me for the stolen items and even called the police to file a report. After I returned to my home country, I was told I had to await the outcome of the hotel’s insurance claim. However, this was a complete failure on their part, as the theft happened due to the hotel’s negligence.
Six months passed, and after constant communication with Mr. Sven Hartung, the Hotel Director, and their insurance company, I was told that the insurance was only willing to pay 1,500 Euro. After further back and forth, they raised the offer to 2,000 Euro, but that was still far below what I was entitled to. I requested that the hotel make up the difference, as it was their staff’s fault that the theft occurred. In response, Mr. Hartung offered just an additional 1,000 Euro, bringing the total to 3,000 Euro – still leaving me with a loss of 1,900 Euro.
I even offered to settle the matter by having the hotel match the insurance amount (2,000 Euro) so that I would receive 2,000 from both the hotel and insurance. This would still leave me losing 900 Euro, but I just wanted the matter to be resolved. Unfortunately, the hotel refused to meet this offer.
To make matters worse, the staff's actions directly contributed to the theft: they opened my door, spoke with the thief, allowed the thief access to my room, and simply let them take my items. For the hotel to only offer me 3,000 Euro after the theft of 4,900 Euro in property is completely unacceptable, especially when I provided all receipts for the stolen items.
I acted in good faith, was patient, and trusted the hotel to do the right thing, but this entire experience has been a nightmare. The staff and management are untrustworthy, and the hotel failed to take responsibility for their actions.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel at all costs. They will promise you everything in the moment but leave you high and dry afterward. This was a terrible, frustrating, and...
