Kriegergedächtniskapelle Garmisch — Attraction in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

A great, short hike from Garmisch! The views of the valley below and the Alps are beautiful even if cloudy and overcast. The small shrine to the fallen soldiers is moving and a wonderful place to reflect on the tragedy of war.

You can do a loop where you hike up one route and down another on very well marked trails. If you'd like to continue on for a longer, hike, continue up the road to nearby St. Martinshutte for a snack or beverage.

This is a solemn and beautiful memorial to the local sons, husbands, brothers, and fathers lost in WWII. Some may forget about the loss of life so long ago on both sides of the combat lines. This is a historic and touching reminder. It is about 11 minutes hike from the base in town and en route to higher hiking points along the mountain. It also offers a truly remarkable view of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I hiked here at sunset and was able to witness the tolling of the memorial chapel bells at 6pm, which was near sunset...

Unglaublich waren wir als wir oben standen, jeder heldenopferstatus mit seinen "Denkmäler" in deutschland ist einer zu viel aber dieser hier mahnt mit seiner Erscheinung er dem Kriegsverlieren und den Untergang des Nationalsozialismus. Fotos in voller kampfmontur hier wird dem Korpus der Wehrmacht gedacht möglicherweise auch Fotos voller SS Offiziers-Pracht, aber nicht der Person die im Krieg gefallen war die "Gedächtniskapelle" vereinnahmt alle diese nicht Gesinnungstäter für ein umdenken und hijacking des Gedenkens, darunter sind viele viele Täter und keineswegs nur arme garmischer die "getötet" wurden.
