This castle is a must see in Landstuhl! It is one of the dominants of this town. It is right above on top of the hill and you can see it from many angles. The town should place more arrows towards it, though and dedicate some parking spaces for visitors. I parked in one of the streets but was not sure if it was allowed. After quite a short walk you access the castle ruins which have interesting but unfortunate history. The entrance fee in general is 4 euros (you can pay the fee with credit or debit card as well as with cash) and there are many people eligible for discounts. I think the most interesting thing about this castle is how they used and incorporated sandstone rock with the walls they built on and around it. There is also interesting audio guide in 3 international languages which you can play from your phone after scanning QR codes which are located on various places around the castle. One thing I missed were numbers which would hint the order in which would be the best to tour the castle. You can also expect nice views from the highest points. Highly...

Its a treasure trove of historical ingenuity right in midst of an otherwise sleepy neighbourhood of Landstuhl.
The castle is a mixture of human construction through stones and improvisation of using existing sedimentary rocks. Some walls comprising of sedimentary rocks give an aura of Grand Canyon.
Beautiful place which is free of any excessive rush attached to such places.
Could be visited in detail within 2 hours. But it gives you ample angles to take panoramic overview of city of Landstuhl from height. The views are exceptional for photographic ideas.
If you have come near or at Landstuhl and miss paying a visit to Nanstein Castle, then you are missing out on a huge chance to peak through a chapter of Germanic history.
Long things short, a must see place...
Read moreThis place is a great starting point for your German adventures! Feeling intimidated by going to “see a castle”, or wanting to avoid congested areas due to covid concerns, or are you just wanting a nice place to pass a Saturday? Burg Nanstein is the Place. It offers beautiful views of Landstuhl, Ramstein-Miesenbach, and RAB. The ruins have historical information in both German and English. The layout is simple to follow, but still detailed and intriguing to take in. You get the sense of the history of the place and can visualize what life would have been like. It’s low cost—8 euro for a family of 5 (young kids potentially free). There’s also a small restaurant on hand. There’s walking trails, and what appeared to be bike trails. Overall, I recommend this for any new RAB residents, families with small kids, or anyone wanting a low-cost...
