Awesome, informative tour with lots of trivia facts and great story telling and history included.
THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE COMING HERE: The tours are only available in German. This may get tedious for non-german speakers, since there's more listening than seeing to be done. Considering that people were shorter during the middle ages, the hallways and rooms are very tiny. I wouldn't recommend clastrophobic people to join on this tour.
VERY IMPORTANT: There are only TWO tours available per day on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays at 1:30 and 3:00 PM. You must get in line beforehand (I recommend at least by 13:00, mind that the tickets on the picture below say numbers 01 and 02, because me and my friend were lucky to get first in line ;)) to grab a ticket for either tour. Since these are prisons cells and torture rooms, the space is very tiny, dark, and non-airy. Therefore, only a maximum of 25 people are allowed per tour. If you come any later than that, you will NOT be able to get the chance to enter, which left a lot of people empty-handedly frustrated, despite their long hours of waiting at the entrance.
Other than that, the tours are free. The tour guide simply asks for a donation of how much you consider the tour was worth. I really recommend going if you want to get to know interesting facts about the townhall all the way back to...
Read moreIF I could do ZERO stars I would simply on the HORRIBLE process for this tour as noted by previous reviewers! It is offered hourly during open hours and when you show up they do not provide tickets or numbers for your place in line. Only 20 people are allowed per tour and there were multiple groups that only had one person in line that showed up five minutes prior and were allowed to proceed. Moreover, we were rejected, only to discover two were allowed after us without explanation and we returned a second time thirty minutes prior per the instructions of the person at the desk and waited in line only to miss the tour again. As Americans we were handicapped by not understanding the language, but were assisted by two German gentlemen in front of us who were also denied under the same circumstances and complained profusely in German at the Process. They indicated the staff didn't care nor policed the line. Might be an excellent visit, but be prepared to wait at least an hour prior to the tour and do not leave! VERY disappointing with only a day...

You arrive an hour early before designated time to start the tour. Don't do what we did, we arrived at 1245 for the 1300 tour. Thinking we can slide in, we were wrong. Only 20 people max can enter the tour and once you get your voucher if you had plans to leave and come back before the tour starts, good luck trying to get in because the guys at the window will kick you out for leaving. (So you wait in their waiting room for an hour or so) The tour is free but donations at the end are recommended. Also, people are savages and will cut in front of you if you don't pay attention, so stand your ground and get your voucher!!! Speak as much English as possible, the guys love it. They especially, love it when you ask them to speak English because they speak nothing but German. He told a lady in English, If you don't speak German, I don't speak English. Again, it's a free tour which is probably why...
