We feel robbed..!

Having spent a, most enjoyable two days riding the Harz Railway system ( using a pre-purchased three day Rover Ticket ), due to the weather conditions on our third day, rather than ride the trains in the rain, we decided to visit the EU funded HSB Steam Locomotive Workshop in Wernigerode.

What a mistake… Not only was our Rover Ticket not valid for, what is described as, “an opportunity to experience the impressive technology and historical significance of the steam locomotives up close”, instead of the “impressive view of the workshop and the work carried out there on the steam locomotives” all that was visible from the viewing gallery, were two HSB carriages and one dead HSB steam locomotive..!!

No activity of any sort, in fact, apart from the lady in the shop / ticket office, the only activity we saw at 3.18 p.m. on that day was a worker getting on his bicycle and leaving the workshop 🤔

All this excitement for €7 each…! 🤔😕😕

Not recommended unless you check for actual work taking place before you pay for entry.

Besuchte das Museum, bevor ich zurück nach Großbritannien reiste. Die Idee ist wirklich gut - Lokomotiven während der Reparatur sichtbar zu machen, ist sehr interessant und macht sie zukunftssicherer. Zum Zeitpunkt unseres Besuchs passierte jedoch sehr wenig - 6001 saß im Schuppen neben einem Kessel von 39 (glaube ich), aber sehr wenig Aktivität. Ich würde etwa 5-10 Minuten einplanen, um alles dort zu sehen, und das ist wahrscheinlich großzügig.

Das Hauptproblem und der Grund für meine Sternebewertung ist der offensichtliche Mangel an Wickelmöglichkeiten für kleine Kinder. Als ich ankam, benutzte ich die Behindertentoilette, die einen Tisch hatte, um mein Kind zu wickeln. Kurz darauf musste mein Kind erneut gewickelt werden. Es waren nur wir und der Aufseher da, zusammen mit der Handvoll Arbeitern im Erdgeschoss. Ich versuchte, zur Toilette zurückzukehren, fand sie aber verschlossen vor.

Ich wartete wieder 30 Minuten auf die Toilette und ging mehrmals über den Balkon, war aber immer noch verschlossen. Ich versuchte sogar, an der Tür zu fragen, aber niemand antwortete, also vermutete ich, dass die Toilette, aus welchem Grund auch immer, außer Betrieb genommen worden war. Zu meiner Überraschung fragte ich an der Rezeption, ob es Wickelmöglichkeiten gäbe, und mir wurde gesagt, dass es keine gäbe, obwohl ich sie buchstäblich 20 Minuten vorher benutzt hatte!

Wenn man es einmal gesehen hat, scheint es nichts mehr zu geben, was einen wieder zurücklocken könnte, was schade ist, da ich denke, dass der Ort viel...

You really need to be a steam train enthusiast to maybe enjoy this place. Only static displays with no activity whatsoever. They really should post when work will happen online. Takes like 10 minutes to walk through with most areas inaccessible at the time of my visit. Perhaps a guided tour would be better but not available in English. Even the gift shop was mediocre. My advice, try to visit when work is actually occurring or skip it and ride the steam...
