Restaurant Orchidea Huong — Restaurant in Wernigerode

We went to the restaurant because it's highly rated. What we ordered are what is considered very typical food from Japan and Vietnam: Sushi and beef Pho, as main dishes.

The Pho is 15 Euro and has following problems:

What Orchidea offered is a pho with very salty soup. The soup is not salty as a dip for noodle, but extremely salty as something you ought to drink.

The rice noodle is too soft and does not offer texture.

Beef is ok, no complaints about the beef.

The Sushi Mix is eye opening, here's why:

the rice are cold and hard, not because you CHOOSE to make it cold and hard, but because it is kept cold in the fridge for too long time that it becomes hard.

Soy Sause is pure salty and dip a little bit with Sushi is just too much. The Soy Sause use in the restaurant is salty. Either use a better soy sauce or, if you prefer to use the ones you're using, season it with sugar and spicies, and add some water inside. It is a Soy Sauce for Sushi, not for cooking.

It is a 49 Euro Combi with 14 pieces of rolled sushi. I am not being a dick here and exaggerating the situation, but I strongly suggest Chef Ms. Huong to give a try at the EatHappy Sushi bar in any larger REWE or Kaufland. They are just better.

I do not understand why the food (and food only, service are very friendly) is this bad and I am very curious about it. Is it because of the vacation season that the restaurant is lack of well-trained cook? Is it because that the tourists will come and eat anyway so the food does not matter very much? How to explain the 4.6 Stars on Google then?

Btw, I saw my neighbour tables were having a very good time. Isn't the atmosphere that matters so much to them that it conpensates the food?

My general suggestion for the restaurant: please taste your own food and you will definitely know where to change. I am not at all some goofy belly-god. Just a normal and tolerant customer that like to visit asia restaurants.

Meiner Erfahrung nach das beste und authentischste asiatische Restaurant, das ich bisher besuchen durfte! Wir gingen Freitags um 17 Uhr in diesem Restaurant essen. Wir wurden freundlich begrüßt und zu unserem Tisch begleitet. Noch bevor wir die Speisekarten erhielten, wurden uns warme aromatisierte Handtücher zur Erfrischung und warmer Pflaumenwein gereicht. Uns wurden daraufhin jeweils eine japanische und eine vietnamesische Karte gereicht, welche beide über ein sehr mannigfaltiges Angebot an großen und kleinen Speisen verfügten. Entgegen der "Kenner", waren nicht nur "Fisch auf Reis" (Sushi) auf der japanischen Karte, sondern auch verschiedene Suppen und gebratene Gerichte. Auch vegetarische Speisen waren zu finden, beispielsweise Miso Suppe mit Seidentofu. Meine Auswahl fiel auf Sommerröllchen (Shrimps, Reisnudeln und Minze an einer Saté ähnlichen Soße) als Vorspeise und Knuspriger Ente mit Gemüse und Kokos-Tamarinden Soße und gebratenen Nudeln als Beilage. Nach unserer Bestellungen reichte man uns freundlicherweise ein Frühlingsröllchen an einer Sweet Chili Sauce, welche nicht nur hübsch angerichtet waren sondern auch hervorragend geschmeckt haben. Die Vorspeisen kamen nach ca. 20 Minuten und haben sehr frisch und fein geschmeckt. Die Hauptspeisen folgten nach ca. weiteren 20 Minuten. Ebenfalls wunderbar angerichtet und eine unglaubliche Geschmacksvielfalt, die Ente perfekt knusprig von außen, dünn geschnitten und schön zart ohne trocken zu sein. Als Nachtisch bestellte ich mir die gebackene Banane mit Honig und Eis, dazu ein vietnamesischer Kaffee - wieder alles perfekt, besonders der Kaffee eine kulinarische Neuigkeit für mich. Zusammenfassend waren wir sehr zufrieden und würden gerne wieder kommen. Das Personal war sehr nett und professionell, die Lokalität schön eingerichtet und die Präsentation der Gerichte und natürlich die Qualität auf den Punkt. Die Preise sind relativ in Ordnung, man isst nun mal nicht in einem "China-Imbiss" sondern in einem richtigen, hochwertigen Restaurant. Daher sind die Schlechten Bewertungen bezüglich des Essens und des Personals absolut nicht gerechtfertigt, wenn diese überhaupt echt sind und von echten Gästen stammen - nach ihrem Besuch werden Sie denke ich auch der Meinung der anderen vielen gerechtfertigten 5- und 4- Sterne...

Food was worth every penny, service was great.

When seated we were served a small plum wine (?)

After ordering we were served a small piece of sushi whilst waiting on our food.

I had spring rolls & butterfish pho as entrée both were delicious I was especially suprised by the pho. The soup was a little spicy and a tad sour it was great.

As my main dish I had the duck and no complaints it was tender with a little pink in the middle. Highly recommend!

One small remark: The vegetarian options are limited. My girlfriend did love it. However didn't a lot of options to choose between.
