It is October about 17:00. Normally this month, the sun goes down about 18:00. Near the municipal stadium wall, we passed the blue sign “end of awarded coast”, there was no shower and bay information as it was in the main entrance, so we concluded “we are not in the blue flag zone any more”. Nice marble beach, 50 or more umbrellas and sunbeds, almost empty - not much people left at that time of the day. We did not have swim suits and had no intention for sunbathing – just wanted to enjoy the end of the day. We relaxed on two amongst the plenty available sunbeds and begun contemplating the magnificent sea. At certain point a red dressed man, coming probably from the local bar stuff, was approaching heavily and shouted at us in barely understandable English: "you want a bed, you have to pay". We: "It's end of the day, there is nobody here, we do not take someone’s places, it’s not written that we have to pay". He: "It is not written that is free."… We left extremely disappointed. We are frequently Cretan and Greece visitor and never, ever had such attitude towards us in this country. The question: “Was this marble part blue flag area?” remains...

On the side with umbrellas and sunbeds, the prices are high. There is a free area, but the ground is covered with stones, making it uncomfortable to lie down.

If you decide to eat at one of the nearby restaurants, be careful and check the reviews first, as one of them is a clear scam. They tried to sell us a cheap wine — the same one you can find in supermarkets for €2–3 — at the outrageous price of almost €50. On top of that, the bill was much higher than the actual value of what we...
Read moreJust returned home from the most relaxing time… AMMOS Beach was 1min from our hotel. Even there are lots of beaches to explore we loved the ease of having a clean well organised beach so close. The water was crystal clear with small fish. Easy access to hot and cold refreshments day and night. The tourists were from all over… English, German, Dutch, Eastern European…. There seemed to be no hassle and the shallow waters were perfect for young families, many of whom can with grandparents too. Perfectly safe for lone females and a relaxing retreat for couples of all ages. In the evenings we ventured out to beautiful restaurants, endless independent shops for all budgets and we are most definitely returning THANK YOU...
