As a wood turner, I visited the shop after seeing it while walking passed. As is common on Crete its full of beautiful olive wood and a few other types of locally sourced timber. Its clear the turner, 'Josef', has a lot of skill at turning various forms and vessels. Prices are high as you would expect of one off items from a professional wood turner. Unfortunately, I found the 'DO NOT TOUCH' signs a bit heavy handed. I like to see the skill of wood turners by having a look all over, especially underneath, to see how much attention they give to peices. These items are designed to be tactile, touched and I feel thats part of wood turning. Taking this away from customers is like having a petting zoo where you cant touch the animals. I can understand that kids with sticky fingers make a mess, but its something you have to live with. Also, some items are fragile, and I can see why they shouldn't be handled.
