Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno — Attraction in Municipality of Rethymnon

I had a great experience visiting this museum. Downstairs you will find historically artifacts that reflects both the history and passion of the Cretan people. You can see many artifacts from the daily lives of the everyday workers too, knifemaker, lyra maker, traditional clothes maker to mention some. While the folk museum itself was surprisingly rich and informative, considering its size, my experience was somewhat marred by the noise level at the ticket office. The staff members seemed to be engaged in lengthy conversations, both on the phone and with each other, which made it difficult to concentrate on the exhibits. Interesting and informative museum in the old town of Rethymno. Signs are provided in English and we learnt lots about the traditional crafts of Crete as well as the wider history of the island. Would recommend visiting when you first arrive in Rethymno if you want the background information before exploring. A relatively small museum but definitely worth a visit.
