A truly stunning place to wind down and spend a quiet day. Unlike other lakes in the city, this one's open throughout the day. That seems to be the biggest plus point. Most Bengaluru lakes have certain timings to adhere to, like a 3 hour slot in the morning coupled with a 3-4 hour slot in the evening. And when you have such small hours to visit, naturally everyone wants to get in at the same time. Which quite frankly defeats the purpose of having a quiet getaway in a noisy city. Thankfully, this lake doesn't have that and you can gladly get away from the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy some peace and quiet even during the middle of the day.
The first time I'd been there was in the afternoon, and the second was in the evening at 4.
Late mornings and early evenings are the best times to spot birds there due to less human presence around and less noise. The lake has a dedicated cycling lane and walking lane. And it would work perfectly if everyone followed them properly. However, whichever lane I walked in, I was promptly forced to step aside and make way every now and then for a passing cyclist.
Seating is provided at strategic points, some of them at the waters edge which directly overlooks the lake, and some on the other side of the track. So choose one as per your comfort level. There is an arena with a sort of open stage at the very end of the lake, where I presume a lot of the Kere Habba activities take place. Toilets are provided right next to it.
There's just one section of this lake that smells awful, and that's at the the far end of the trail that you come across after the arena. Barring that part, no other part is foul smelling. On the contrary, the rest of the lake has that quintessential herby bangalore smell of plants which is especially overpowering whenever it rains.
Overall, a great place for running, walking, bird watching or a leisurely stroll in...
Read moreSlightly stinky but one of the better and well developed lakes in the area. Draws quite a bit of a crowd in the mornings.
The walkway is quite well developed and has a mud as well as a paved trail. A variety of trees dot the periphery of the lake and they’ve grown tall enough to provide shade through the entire length of the walkway.
The southern area of the lake is a bit marshy and is home to several species of birds. They nest atop the tall trees and it’s quite a sight to behold. This area of the park draws a lot of amateur photographers.
The western edge of the park is still being developed to act as a storm water catchment area. The new culvert might be in response to the flooding, the area saw, during the 2022 monsoon.
As for the walkway, it’s lined with sufficient granite benches if you just wish to sit and enjoy the lush greenery around. There are also a couple of hexagonal rest areas if you wish to meditate or do pranayama.
The only grouse is the lack of any restrooms whatsoever. Other than that one of the best places around for...
Read moreNice place to have a walk or run, even you can use a cycle. The timing are morning 5:30 to 10am and evening 4 to 6:30pm. The place has many birds especially aquatic birds, like dukcs, heron, cormorant etc. A good green blanket. 6-7 variety of butterflies such as common green, grass green, butterflies etc. The other side was blocked since last few month, some repairs going on. Now it's clear. And it has a huge termite colony. And also you can observe fish in the water. It has an amazing reflection of the city in the water. Looks really pretty. They have washrooms separate for men and women but it's not well maintained. Good for walking and fresh air, seating arrangements in between like benches or huts. A stage-like plantform with steps surrounding makes it audience seating. Performance yoga exercises etc. Run,...
