Read moreThis place is visible from Nehru Place Metro Station. Both ISKON and lotus temple are near to this park. On day time, this park is OK but during night time, it is better to avoid this place. Most Delhiites, when thinking of open spaces, of large gardens where you can go for picnics or even just a long walk, think of Lodhi Gardens, Nehru Park, or the like. But there’s another green lung which goes pretty much unnoticed: Aastha Kunj, next to the Nehru Place Metro Station.
If you’re going from Nehru Place towards the Lotus Temple (along the road past the Nehru Place Metro Station), the gate to Aastha Kunj is just after the Metro Station/Epicuria Food Mall. No entry fee is charged, and you can just go right in. Aastha Kunj is really large, with a criss-cross of paths across the landscaped area, which has lots of trees here and there. Since we visited here in spring, there were also flowerbeds crowded with spring flowers, as well as trees of red silk cotton, chamrod, fiddle-leaf fig, and other species. There are other gates leading out of the park, one towards the back (which overlooks, seen from a distance, the beautiful golden spire of a nearby Buddhist temple). Also towards the back are the toilets—we didn’t go here, but at least there are toilets in the park.
The best thing about Aastha Kunj is that it’s so vast, and because so few people seem to know about it, it’s very uncrowded. And though it may not have the density of vegetation that is true of Nehru Park and Lodhi Gardens, or the heritage structures of Lodhi Gardens, it’s still very pleasant. Plus, of course, it’s so...
Read morePark is really huge with beautiful scenary, Lotus Temple, Iskcon Temple, Buddha Temple, parts of Aravali, Open Gym, Empty Theatres, Abandoned Guest House and a working Police Booth. This park is quite popular amongst people living nearby as many families can be seen enjoying in the park. Couples explore and choose the shady corners/places in park to enjoy coziness in public. Night time is where all the risk gets involved. Police take rounds in the park to force public out of park. Park has no proper closed entrances. There are multiple entry and exit from park to local colonies in all directions. Park is used as a way to cross for home by daily metro commuters to Nehru Place Metro Station. However, after 9 pm if you are crossing, be very careful as there are criminals(4) in the park who loot passersby for smartphones and possible cash meanwhile hurting them. Saw one such case in last 2 days only. If you have to cross the park at night, as a tip, wait for 3-4 commuters and then cross the park with them. This caution time is from 9pm-11pm. Even during the day time, it has been observed that Junkies eve tease in the park at times and the general public is observed to say nothing at such instances. So if you get in a problem here, search for Police or Security. Be ready to be asked all the irrelevant and surprising questions by the Police here if they ever cross you. If we talk about maintenance, this park is maintained once every year by Iskcon during Janmashtami when it is all cleaned. Otherwise you may find signs of Humans everywhere...
