Maota Lake is located in the south of the city of Amber, about 11 kilometers from the center of Jaipur, at the base of Amber Fort. The lake contains an island in the center, named Kesar Kyari Bagh. The island has a saffron garden, whose plants are said to have been planted by a Maharaja in the 15th century. The Dil-Aaram Bagh is situated on the northern end of the lake. There is no fee to visit the lake, but there is a fee to traverse upward (or ride an elephant) to enter the Amber Fort above. The lake collects rain water flowing down from the nearby hills and was the main source of water for the Amber Fort and common people. In Jaipur, after 7 or 10 days of Ganesh chaturthi,[6] the statue is taken in a procession for immersion in the Maota Lake.

The ancient name of Sarover is “Mahavata” but in common language is said to be Maota. Nearby that lake there were large wat trees. Because of this it called “Maotha”. The lake collects rain water flowing down from the nearby hills. The lake was the main source of water for the amer palace and for common people. The Dil-Aaram Bagh is situated on its northern end. The “Kesar Kyari” (Saffron Glower beds) garden is in its middle. That looks very beautiful

Earlier referred to as Mahavata because of the nearby large wat trees. The lake is located at the base of the UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Amer or Amber Fort. The rain water that flowed from the nearby hills collected in this lake and was the main source of water for both the royals and the commoners of Amber.

The reflection of the majestic fort on the gleaming waters of this lake forms a great photo-op. Another absolute visual delight is the amazing Kesar Kyari Bagh, which sits majestically in the middle of the lake. A unique display of architecture, this beautiful garden is said to have been built around the 16th century. Another garden called Dil-Aaram Bagh is situated towards the northern end of this captivating lake.

Furthermore, there are a few food stalls and handicrafts shops near the lake. Undoubtedly, you will be left spellbound by the magnificence of...
