It is commonly referred to as Police Museum. This Museum is situated at about 5-7 minutes walk from Mattancherry Boat jetty/ backside exit of Mattancherry(Dutch) palace/Mattancherry Bus stand. In Jews Town, there is a direction board stating International Tourism Police museum and its direction. The address is AB Selam Rd, Jews St, Jew Town, Kappalandimukku, Mattancherry – 682002, Kochi, Kerala.
The museum is open from 9.30 a.m to 6.30 p.m. on all days.
The small museum made to resemble a police station. Photography is allowed here. It was established in 2010.
The entry to this museum is free. The museum has Police Uniforms, weapons etc used by Travancore Police/Kerala Police. The museum is maintained good and is a small museum. The Museum also has some mannequins showing how various gun shots etc look like in a body. There are some disturbing pictures as well in the museum. Also on display are a variety of hats , Canes, armory used by police personnel. Badges and ranks of police personnel starting from constable to DIGs are also on display.
This is a museum dedicated to Police force, and illustrates how Kerala police has grown through the years. On display are pictures from the early years to the present ones. The "FINGERPRINTS" section is educative and informative. One can also see the police band display with a constable of the pipe-band in ceremonial dress, a cop carrying a bugle, Police dog squad images are also on display.
Modern day displays include a policeman in riot dress, a commando in dangri, a photo of a commando carrying an automatic weapon, an anti-sabotage team with equipment and a policeman wearing bomb-disposal suit.
It is an ideal place to visit for family and kids and especially if you are interested in police history. The entrance is free. The museum is located in same lane of Synagogue and Antique museum.
Maximum it may take 15-20 minutes to see this museum even if one reads all things which are kept near exhibits. There is also a kind of help desk available for the tourists to get their doubts clarified, but when I visited there was no one in charge there.
Definitely a museum worth visiting while one is at Mattancherry. There is no parking place so it is better to walk to this museum.
The compound of the museum is well maintained as a manicured garden and has on display a three tires stone lamp, Cannons etc.
