Must visit place. You get all kinds of clothes, Sandals, Shoes, bags, Jewellery and many more for a reasonable price. I bought few slippers ranging between 250 and 350. Good quality materials. Also bought phone case which I found attractive. This place is very crowded and parking is highly impossible. Better to go in two wheeler or auto. There are few halwa shops where huge variety of halwas, Chips are sold. It’s fun to walk on the streets as you can see vendors inviting you to purchase their goods from shop in a funny way 😄. This place is very clean and vendors give lot of respect to their customers

“A must-visit place in Kozhikode! Mittayi Theruvu is full of life, colors, and flavors. The street is packed with shops selling everything from the famous Kozhikode halwa and fresh banana chips to textiles and handicrafts. It’s a pedestrian-friendly area, so walking here is easy and enjoyable. Evening time is the best – the lights, aroma of sweets, and the bustling vibe make it special. Prices are reasonable, and bargaining is expected. A perfect place for shopping and tasting local flavors!”

The busiest street in Calicut is an absolute must-visit! You’ll be amazed by the vibrant atmosphere. This place is packed with a ton of cloth stores, numerous restaurants, juice bars, and halwa centers. Some shops even have great offers, so keep an eye out for deals! The best time to visit is in the evening when the energy is at its peak. You should definitely experience the lively rush vibe here—it's simply awesome!

Mittayi Theruvu, or Sweet Meat Street, is more than just a shopping destination in Kozhikode; it's the beating heart of the city, a vibrant and historic artery that tells the story of its people, its trade, and its flavors. A visit here is an immersive experience that engages all your senses. The Atmosphere: The first thing you notice is the energy. The street is a bustling pedestrian zone, packed with a lively mix of locals and tourists. The air is thick with the aromas of freshly cooked halwa, fried banana chips, and a symphony of spices. While it can be incredibly crowded, especially in the evenings, this is part of its charm. The street has undergone renovations in recent years, with a tiled pavement and overhead covers that make it a comfortable and inviting place to walk, even in the heat or rain. The Sweet Delicacies: The name "Mittayi Theruvu" is no accident. The street's history dates back centuries, to a time when the Zamorin ruler of Kozhikode invited Gujarati sweet makers to set up shop. The star of the show is, without a doubt, the Kozhikodan Halwa. You'll find it in an astonishing array of colors and flavors—from the traditional ghee halwa to more unique varieties like chili, beetroot, or even tender coconut. Sampling these melt-in-your-mouth delights is a must, and many shops offer tastings. Beyond the halwa, don't miss the freshly fried banana chips and other local snacks, which are equally famous. A Shopper's Paradise: While sweets are its claim to fame, Mittayi Theruvu is a shopper's haven for a wide range of goods. The street is lined with a fascinating mix of old, authentic sweet shops and modern boutiques, jewelry stores, and eateries. You can find everything from textiles, footwear, and clothes to books, handicrafts, and electronics, often at reasonable prices. Bargaining is a common practice in many of the shops, so don't be shy. A Glimpse into History: Beyond the commercial buzz, the street has a deep historical and cultural significance. It was a meeting place for literary figures and a subject of the famous Malayalam novel Oru Theruvinte Katha (The Story of a Street) by S.K. Pottekkat. A statue of the author stands at the entrance, a tribute to his deep connection with the city and its most famous street. The street also houses an ancient fire temple and other historical structures, hinting at its long and diverse past as a trading hub that welcomed merchants from across the globe. Practical Tips for Your Visit: Getting There: The street is located close to the Kozhikode railway station. Since it's a pedestrian-only area, you'll have to park your vehicle nearby and walk. Best Time to Visit: The evenings are the most vibrant and energetic, though also the most crowded. Cash is King: While some shops accept digital payments, it's always a good idea to carry cash. In conclusion, Mittayi Theruvu is a true sensory delight and a must-visit for anyone traveling to Kozhikode. It's a place where history, culture, and commerce intertwine, creating an unforgettable experience that is as sweet as its...
