Last week, I went to Kozhikode with a bunch of friends purely for one reason — street food! And obviously, when you think of food in Kozhikode, the first name that pops up is Hotel Rahmath. No second thoughts, we headed straight there.
Food
We went for the usual favourites — their mutton biriyani, chicken biriyani, and kada fry, along with a few other dishes. This wasn’t my first time eating from Rahmath, so I already had an idea about their signature flavour. But honestly, this time I felt the taste had changed a bit compared to my previous visits. While it still holds a nostalgic charm and remains a decent option for biriyani lovers, I personally feel it’s a bit overhyped these days. I’d give the biriyani a 3.5 out of 5. The kada fry was good, but again, not extraordinary. Overall, the food is good, but not something I’d call exceptional anymore.

Staff & Service
Rahmath now has a new building close to their original location, which makes dining in more convenient. We were welcomed politely and guided straight to our table by their staff. I must say, the staff is well-trained, polite, and makes sure you feel comfortable throughout the meal. No complaints when it comes to service — they were efficient and attentive.
⸻ Ambience
This part is a bit tricky. The place isn’t really about ambience — it’s more about volume and crowd. Since they are always packed, and business is booming, the seating arrangements feel a bit chaotic at times. They’ve maintained a decent standard, though — you’ll find enough space to sit and eat with friends or family. But if you’re looking for a calm, aesthetic atmosphere, Rahmath isn’t that kind of place. It’s more functional than fancy.
Yes, Rahmath still gives you a taste of Kozhikode. It’s worth visiting once if you’re in the city and want to try the food people talk about. But manage your expectations — especially if you’re going in with the hype in mind.
