48 years ago when Kalanthan Koya opened Ameen Juice Shop at Moideen Mosque Jn, Calicut, it was probably Calicut’s first juice shop. He opened EPK Fruit and Cool Bar in Mananchira in 1980, and later opened shops at Kidson Corner and Stadium Jn

EPK Fruit and Cool Bar came up with a juice made of ‘Njaalipoovan’ banana, frozen milk and sugar — the first customers were a set of guys watching Sharjah Cup in a shop next door. When asked the juice’s name, he just cooked up a name and said, “Sharjah Shake”. The name stuck! As they say, the rest is history.

Kalanthans cool bar is a very famous and old juice and shakes shop in Kozhikode town. The shop is located in the heart of Kozhikode town near Mittayi Theruvu - SM Street and Mananchira.

They serve refreshing drinks like shakes and juices. We tried mango, chicku and shamam shakes and it was really tasty. The service is very pleasant and professional. It is a very crowded place, but they manage the crowd very well and we will get our orders pretty fast.

The shop is somewhat clean and decently maintained, they do not have any seating area. Parking cars here is tough, we will have to park cars and bikes near Mananchira.
