PLUNGE ADVENTURES PVT LTD. — Attraction in Kerala

We had been avoiding the deluge of houseboats in Kumarakom, craving for something a little more special and private, when we came across Plunge Adventures. Started by a group of friends who quit their corporate jobs to start this adventure company, they offer a 2 hr, 8km loop through the backwaters on a kayak that starts at 7a. Apprehensive at first because we had our 3yr and 6yr old daughters with us, our anxieties were soon allayed when we met Rish and Joshin. Great equipment with proper life jackets of all sizes, a water proof bag to carry our phones, and nice stable kayaks - we were all set to go on an experience of a lifetime. The route takes you through the narrow back channels, allowing you to see the morning activities on the backwaters. People are idling, doing their morning chores and curiously seeing a 3yr old on a kayak :) We spotted a huge variety of birds which even the Kumarakom bird sanctuary doesn't promise. At some points the view was straight out of a picture book. And Joshin who was with us, kept us engaged by explaining the variety of birds and little factoids on the backwaters. Beautiful experience and one that you could never get on the commercial houseboats. And yes, Plunge would also arrange an authentic Kerala breakfast for you after you are finished with the kayaking - so remember to book that or they can't swing it...

The stay at Johny Moose Backwaters farm and the tours organized by Plunge Adventures were the highlight of my Kerala trip and I was so happy for the choice that I have made. I have traveled alone from Trivandrum to Alleppey and Munnar, and this experience was by far the best. The area is so beautiful, cleaner, peaceful and full of surprises.

Rish, my private guide, was so knowledgeable and happy to tell me many things about birds, nature and all the soundings. I took both tours, kayaking and cycling, just to have both unique experiences and it was amazing. The rural side of Kerala is the best, cannot be compared to the touristic places. I have tried kayaking in Alleppey with a high rated company and it was so disappointing and was nothing compared to this one.

One of the most exciting sports especially when you experience it in the lap of nature. In Gods own country, 14kms from Kumarakom, under the expert guidance of professional like Rish, it’s a must do and experience. 8kms of our Kayakking in 2 hours calls for stamina, energy and above all a strong core. Rish has a rich experience of over 12 years and is a personal guide to you for 2 hours. Advisable to go in small groups to enjoy the tranquility and peace, calm water along the canal. Plenty of different species of birds to learn about and see for the first time like flying whistling ducks and different breeds of Kingfisher etc.
