Anand Park, also known as Anand Bagh, is a serene, green oasis located in the southern sector of old Varanasi, near the Durgakund area. It is a compact garden that offers a peaceful retreat from the otherwise bustling, chaotic life of Varanasi’s historic old city. Known as the "Garden of Bliss," Anand Park is frequented by locals and tourists alike, attracting morning walkers, joggers, students, couples, and those practicing yoga and meditation.
The park's location close to some of Varanasi's spiritual landmarks, such as the Vankatti Hanumanji Mandir and the Durgakund Temple, adds to its cultural significance. It provides an ideal quiet spot for relaxation and reflection amid the spiritual fervor of the city. Its well-maintained, landscaped lawns, vibrant flower beds, and shaded trees create a refreshing environment that contrasts with the noise and heat typical of Varanasi’s streets.
One notable feature within the park is a white marble memorial dedicated to Swami Bhaskarananda Saraswati, a revered Hindu saint who lived in the 19th century (1833–1899). This memorial was built in 1910 by one of his disciples to honor his spiritual legacy. Swami Bhaskarananda Saraswati spent the latter part of his life near this area, and the memorial offers shade and a spiritual atmosphere for visitors, even if many who visit the park may not be fully aware of the historical significance of this figure.
Anand Park is a favorite destination for families and friends seeking a calm place for picnics and leisurely walks. It operates daily from early morning until late evening, giving ample opportunity for visitors to enjoy the peaceful surroundings at their own pace. The park is particularly popular in the early morning for exercise and meditation, when the temperatures are cooler and the park’s tranquil vibe is at its best.
Transportation to Anand Park is convenient, with access from the main Durgakund Road and nearby public transport options. Visitors can reach the park by walk, cycle rickshaw, auto-rickshaw, or bus, making it easy to include in a day of sightseeing in Varanasi.
For those looking to experience a quiet, natural environment amidst the spiritual intensity of Varanasi, Anand Park is an excellent choice. It offers a blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual calmness. Whether you want to practice yoga, enjoy a peaceful walk, have a picnic, or reflect in the shade of the memorial, Anand Park provides a welcoming green...
