Tent City Varanasi — Attraction in Uttar Pradesh

While the hotel was good and clean, the property is in a very inconvenient location and difficult to find when going by a car. The best mode of transport into the city is the ferry across the river. We reached late evening and learned that the hotel serves only buffet dinner @1250 + GST per person, which is quite steep considering that the menu had limited variety. We had to go looking for restaurants outside and there was nothing decent in close vicinity and we had to travel all the way to station area to find a good eatery. We also learned from other guests who had dinner there, that the quality of food was not good either. The breakfast menu also did not have too much variety and undercooked idlis.

The house-keeping staff was dishonest too. I lost my lens case and solution which was lying on the dresser (had I left other things outside, probably they would have disappeared as well!!). The hotel was reluctant to admit that their staff had thrown it away/ taken it. Finally after two hours of them searching in vain, I just told them to arrange for the two things as there was no pharmacy on the campus. They told me to go out into the city and get the things myself!! I declined and was adamant that they get it for me and hence, they finally procured the solution (but not lens case) and gave me two bowls to store my lenses for the night! This was at 11.40 in the night and after multiple follow-ups from my side. Next day morning we realized that my family member had lost her moisturizer too which was kept on the side table. So, we realized it's not a case of negligence but theft.

A very well made place. Location is excellent. Doesn’t feel like Varanasi. Being so close to the ghats yet far from the crowd and commotion feels good. Well planned setup. The Ganga Aarti in the premise is good too. The staff and services are hopeless! The staff seems too amateur, inexperienced and underaged! They fail to handle multiple guests or multi task. Everyone seems clueless! It’s more like ‘please help yourself, we are still figuring out what’s to be done!’ The check in was a confusing process to start with. One can never get thru the reception phone. Service is extremely slow and poor. For example, had asked for an additional bath towel, but never got it ever! Had mentioned a late check out by 11 am at the time of check in, had taken their confirmation too. But the next morning was bombarded with calls to check out in time! Everyone was clueless about their late check out commitment. Food is average. No in room dining. No À la carte, only buffet meals. Very very limited options. No live counters. This place is fairly new, so everything is clean and in place, but with this kind of service and staff I don’t know how long they’ll be able to maintain the property. Have serious doubts!
