I was in Bali for five days before leaving for Sulawesi, and this night market was my daily visit.
You can reach there easily by Grab or your own ride. Only thing is if you park at the entrance there's a 2000 rupiah parking fee. The parking lot is manned by two to three people and they do watch your bike, so I didn't mind paying.
The market itself is not that big, but there's plenty of stalls to try, you can easily eat for a week without exhausting all the options. This is not one of those places for tourists, plenty of local people eat here on a daily basis too as the food is really good, yet the price is cheap and reasonable. You probably need to have had a bit of experience with local food in order to know what I mean, but Indonesian food, as the food in many tropical countries, is not some exotic cuisine that belongs in fancy restaurants. They're simply, down to earth and most enjoyable at home or street corners, such as this place. That's why I reckon those fine dining Indonesian restaurants are completely the wrong idea to start with. I've tried a few, personally I think they're overpriced, the food was rather bland and most importantly just downright boring. They usually try to make the meal into some high-end clean looking dish by stripping off what made them tasty and colourful in the first place, which is obviously not going to work.
That being said, you also need to watch out not to go down the road of family-style cooking too hard. Otherwise, the meal becomes too simple to have any characters too. Hence, I have to say a night market is the perfect...
Read moreI don't think I need to add any more compliments to the deliciousness that is the Sindhu Night Market. The other reviewers have nailed it. Instead I can offer some tips - come early, it gets very packed as the locals also love to eat here after work with their families. Try to get dropped off here, the parking is limited. There is no wi-fi in the market itself, but there's a cafe close to the front gate (there are two gates) where you can jump onto their wi-fi to book your ride back. Take enough cash - the ATM is a bit of a walk from the market. Take some wet wipes or paper towels, you might find yourself tucking into something with your hands, or compromising cleanliness with location when scouting for the best place to sit and enjoy your meal. In saying that, please pick up after yourself. Try a few different things! And leave room for dessert 😊 lastly, do not even THINK about leaving before trying the charcoal satay...
Read moreNot a very big night market , around 8 - 10 food stalls and maybe 3 shops are open (it's not what you have in mind when you think 'Night Market')
But some of the food was good , most stalls have the usual Indonesian favourites and some stalls have some nice snack items - all the food is really cheap!
The seating is very limited and it's mostly taken by locals , the locals are also helped before tourists so don't get angry when you stand in a line waiting to order and locals just pop in front of you , it's how it works here .
We just stayed for about 30 minutes and bought some snacks to enjoy on our walk to our hotel as there was nowhere to sit and it was quite unhygienic (which is normal for a street market & street food experience)
The highlight of the night market for us was our dessert - Don't miss out on the delicious desserts at the Ronponggi stall! It's a Japanese style toasted sweet bread with different toppings,...
