Museum Sejarah Nasional is a 132 m (433 ft) obelisk in the centre of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia. It is the national monument of the Republic of Indonesia, built to commemorate the struggle for Indonesian independence. Construction began in 1961 under the direction of President Sukarno. Monas was opened to the public in 1975. It is topped by a flame covered with gold foil. The monument and the museum are open daily from 08.00 until 16.00 Western Indonesia Time (UTC+7) throughout the week except for the Mondays when the monument is closed. Since April 2016, the monument also opens during night time, from 19.00 until 22.00 on Tuesday to Friday, and from 19.00 until 00.00 on Saturday and Sunday.

After 13 years in Jakarta, first time visiting this museum, following the advice of my mother. This museum is located below the Monas. It is quite large, while it is not as big as a standard museum. However you can see plenty of miniature reproductions of scenes from historical events that happened in Indonesia, covering the colonial period up to the events in 1965 in Lubang Buaya. It is quite a good way to read the Indonesian history in a short and easy way, quite good for kids.

I think they could've done way better for such an important place. I went during the day and it was so warm and poorly ventilated inside, and it was very poorly lit. And to make the experience worse, there were so many students crowding because I visited the day after independence day, but for this one I won't blame the place. The dioramas are nice and it's a good way to know the history of Indonesia better in bits (where are the chinese representations??? Heheheh). It was nice, but it...
