I am in no way religious but this church is breathtaking with its vaulted ceilings and the scare factor of a real human head. No visit of Drogheda is complete without a visit to St. Peter's Parish.
This church is located on west street in the very centre of the town. It's hard to miss. The steps outside are used as a meeting spots for all types. Some undesirables do tend to habitat them so be careful.
The inside is stunning, with its pew upon pew of seats and the gated marble alter just beyond. I cannot not mention St. Olivers head, the reason most people visit the church. His head and his interesting story is located in a little Chapel to the left of the alter.

Here one finds a relic if the True Cross, the head of St Oliver Plunkett, a Meath bishop, burned to death at Tyburn. Other historic artefacts including the key and door to his prison cell. The shrine of St Oliver Plunkett (born 400 years ago) is located in a side aisle within the church. This has been renovated and improved for the 400th Anniversary of his birth.
