Dear Members of the Board of Directors,
I am writing to inform you of a very unfortunate incident we had with one of the employees of the Company for the Reconstruction and Development of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. On December 27, 2017 we visited the Davidson Center at the Jerusalem Archeological Park, the Burnt House Museum, and the Herodian Quarter Museum.
At the Burnt House, while purchasing the tickets, we were physically assaulted by one of your employees whom we at the time perceived as a private tour guide as he was working with his private clients. He slammed the door inwards and literally knocked my husband over, plowed though us to get himself to the desk where I was getting the tickets. Disregarding my presence entirely, he pushed himself physically to the front desk and started making arrangements for his clients like our family and other visitors were invisible. We told him that he was rude and his behavior turned completely nasty, bordering on violent. We were greatly surprised both by his physical aggression and by his language.
To our further surprise, the front desk staff member who had been doing rotations though the same historical sites we visited that day informed us that this was one of the company managers named Mini (short for Menachem). The staff member refused to give us the manager's last name. I am certain you are aware that the Company for the Reconstruction and Development of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem is one of the most popular companies though which tourists gain access to the Old City. It is the face of the Old City, its ambassador to the world.
This outrageous mistreatment of American-Jewish visitors who are undoubtedly the bread and butter of the company sends an entirely wrong message regarding the experience of visiting historical sites in the Old City. We come to the Old City not only as tourists but to introduce our children to Israel and to experience Jewish history. We do not only expect the level of service compatible with the international tourist industry standards but an attitude compatible with the belief that Israel is the home for all Jews. Your manager's aggression and language are unacceptable by any standards but especially in the context of working in a company dedicated to preserving and promoting Jewish heritage.
We hope you will address this issue and work to improve the quality of your employees behavior towards guests of the Old...

Read moreDescending two stories beneath the street you discover the Second Temple neighborhood. The items in the display cases are real. Some of the room was excavated, cleated, and slightly reconstructed to give a sense of what it was like; and some is left burnt and unexcavated, see the table smashed into pieces; a silent witness to the destruction. note the "Bar Katros" inscribed stone wight with the name of the house owner. Another was found nearby. The movie is well done but may not appeal to everybody - however, the contrast between his options to go to Masada or to Yavne...
