Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo — Attraction in Brescia

To be honest I’m not a huge fan of endless galleries where you can see tens of similar artworks, which is why this one was ideal for me. The gallery is organised really well, with just a few artworks in each room. There are explanations of the art inspiration and times they were created at the beginning each room, which is interesting as it adds basic understanding of the works you’re looking at. A compact, robust gem of a painting gallery with truly outstanding works by Moretto, Romanino, Savoldo, Raphael and others. The newly renovated galleries are accentuated by a truly bold choice of velvet wall coverings, shocking at first but ultimately successful. A free audio guide is also available through an app, though some of the selections didn’t seem to be available. Everyone was very friendly, and there is a charming piazza out front. Went in not expecting much and came out with 100 new visualizations of Jesus and bunch of ways to depict babies. There is a significant repeating theme of babies here. The paintings are so full of detail and are marvels to look at.
